I hate cord cutters :/

I understand that you are homeless, but I'd rather buy you a good meal than for you to rip $40 off an appliance (20 cents for you). This morning I found a dryer on the curb across the street from me that is the exact same model as mine. All that was wrong with it is the tons of lint and crap behind the lint trap. And a cut power cord. I could have sold it back to my neighbor for $50 labor for cleaning instead of $50 + $40 power cord.. even if they don't buy it, I could have used it for parts for my dryer.

No offense meant, but check craigslist, I see dryer cords all the time for $5 - $10. Also save a couple from the dryers that are completly junk for future use.

Wait, sooooo...only homeless people cut cords?

When iam out looking I find the cords cut on TV's/vacuums/dryers/washers or most appliances.So that's just normal to me I guess most people don't bother with trying to repair them or break them down for parts.

I never really understood why people get so upset about cord cutters.

I guess that would be like me looking at a load of printers, PC's and CRT monitors and telling the guy that I'll take the PC's but you can keep the rest.

I don't do that. I take all of it.

It screws up the chance to test a unit to see if its going. Even if its still on the bed of the truck or trailer. Goes= $$. No goes = saving of time and effort.

I got sick of one guy cutting the cords off.
So what I did was go thru the units before he got there, slice the outer sheath 6 inches from the plug, pull out the wires and strip them out back to 6 iches from the unit.
Then roll the sheaths a bit to cover the wires ends and left them like that.....

I do get plenty of spare cables from microwaves though.

You can add a cord to almost any appliance with minimal work.

This model has a specialized power cord.. replacements are $40 minimum.

If you aren't homeless and on a bicycle, why bother cutting cords? Sell the cord on eBay or craigslist for "$5-10" instead of getting 25 cents at the scrap yard. Sorry, I'm a bit irritated about it :/

A lot of cords are cut by people with cars, not just bicycles or homeless people. Ever try to stuff a dryer in a Yugo?

Also with the low prices now, a lot of us are selling the cords for more than scrap value, along with switches, timers, knobs, etc. etc.

Not every cord sells on ebay.

Sometimes a guy is the windshield and sometimes he's the bug... 8-l

Wow, stereotype much? once a cord cutter took the cord off a projection tv, I had no way to know if it still worked even though it said it did (see link below). Some folks are ONLY after the copper, they don't want to break down a vacuum and deal with all the garbage left over. I see people all the time at my work who bring in copper stripped from cords and guess what, they are NOT homeless! to them its worth it, to you maybe not. I have also seen folks DRIVING VEHICLES stop in front of me to cut a cord. And btw anyone, homeless or not has the right to scrap in whatever manner they please. Just because I get upset if I find something missing a cord and do not know how to fix that doesn't mean I am going to tell the next cord cutter I see to knock it off.

Early bird gets the worm, or you snooze you loose. Lots to learn from curb co. Wait one day when your loading the dryer and another scrapper pulls up and wants to fight over the dryer. It does happen.
Yes. I cut cords and have a full time job, If I didnt take the cord, someone else will.

I cut cords off of things. I cut the cords from tvs and vaccuums because to me, the cord is worth more than the rest of it, since I have to dispose the glass and plastic. No one else picks up tvs or vacuums except the garbage men.

I cut cords all the time. But I live across the street from a refrigerator repair man, who gives me permission.
Helps me make the payments on my cardboard box. ;)

The only thing that bothers me about cord cutters is when they get there before me.

One vulture complaining that another vulture ate the very best of the entrails? At least he left you the dryer (which was probably worth more than the cord). Perhaps you should have gotten there a little sooner or just be grateful there is still stuff you can pick up for free that you can get money for.

I can understand cutting a vacuum cleaners cord off. There's just too much junk on a vacuum cleaner. The motors not big enough to scrap, too much germy dust and far too much plastic.

But then, I'd probably put that extra long cord on something else too.

As to stripping the plastic of a power cord so it could be sold for 'bare bright', nah, that's just not worth your time.
Even Panasonic CRT TV's have more Copper in their degausser cables.

You can still use it for parts for your dryer. I hope you didn't leave it on the curb just because the cord was gone.

The cord is just a small percentage of the whole item. When an item had the cord cut off.. at least they left the rest for me to pick up.

Nothing wrong with cutting cords.
Wire is the easiest form of scrap.
Some people don't have the space or means to haul large appliances. Or have physical limitations.

Honestly, the way steel prices are, I make more money driving by and cutting cords and picking up non ferrous, and leaving the steel where it sits

I think you're more annoyed that your neighbor isn't going to pay $90 to get his dryer back, but you could have made a quick $50 off of him by running a shop vac for 10 minutes.

Use it for parts or sell the parts on fleabay then...if the cord alone costs $40 the boards and parts still should bring you more than $50 anyways.

The cord cutters do suck, but less offensive than the smash and grabbers, broken tv or monitor with copper coil taken, rest is left.

I work long hours and have a 70 mile commute one way in a hatchback with very little space. I have to maximize my space and time so I mostly cut cords. I've filled a 60 gallon trash can in less than a month which is the best way for me to make a little extra.
I've seen appliances sit for a week and no one touches them. If I could pick them up I would. I also don't have the space to break down and store scrap so cutting cords fits for me.
There are homeless all around my area and I've never seen them scraping.
Sorry but I'm gonna keep cutting until I have other options.

I remember a couple years ago we had a miscommunication that we just couldn't resolved for some time. We would buy a load of about ten frudges. Everyone had the cord cut off! This went on for some time, fortunately we got the mix up correxted . Now we get 5 times the fridges from different suppliers, and the thing that drives me mad is when the cord gets ruined during the shuffling and transport of the fridges. The delivery people that drag them from the customers homes, to our guys that pick them always just seem to drag the cird s underneath instead of hanging or taping them on something. I just hate changing cirda , it's senselessly wasted labor.

Is it possible that the owner saved the cord when he tossed out the machine? If I throw something out that has a cord, wich is pretty rare, unless its made of plastic, I cut the cord and save it in case I come across something that needs one. I dont want to pay four or five bucks for a new cord to put on an old drill or tv I only paid a few bucks for to re-sale at the fea market. And I quit buying cords from the homeless guys under the bridge a long time ago, it just encourages them. :)

I did grab it as soon as I saw it. Good thing, because its the exact same model as mine, and I happen to need a part from it today. I threw my son's wet shoes and a towel in there yesterday, and apparently knocked the moisture sensor loose a bit. Today, a strap from my daughter's clothing caught on it, and pulled the sensor out and twisted it up. Luckily I have a replacement part in the next room :)

Well, I don't think they would have thought to save the cord. My neighbor threw it out cause it stopped drying well (simply a clogged lint trap). My question is, why would you cut the cord if if you want to save it? Shouldnt you detach it from the connections? Is it really safe to just splice a different cord on it?
