I have 71 computers in my kitchen.

But it's the 340 in my living room that are gonna set her off, :))

I am just glad you didn't put all your PC's in one basket! LOL Nice score
If you put the mirror in front of them they would be hard to notice. LOL
Nice score
Good luck and god speed! Can I have your dog if she does in fact kill you?!
suggestion: get to work lol
Just tell her "Babe trust me, I have a plan". You do have a plan?
I think that does compute, though....
Get to work! I hope you didn't fill the doghouse with more, though. Depending on your wife, you may need that area....
Awesome score!
Pretty simple plan... same as the onesy-twosy finds, just 411 times.
No hard drives, though... well, just one so far & I'm not sure if PTS buys that type. Haven't busted into the optiplexes yet, but they're pretty old.
After she gets home you need to post and tell us how it went.........if you can still type.
Ahh, she's good. Those little green pieces of paper smooth over a lot of inconveniences.
These little ones I have standing on top of the stacks are a huge PITA. The side covers just aren't cooperating. Once I get them off it's cake, but they put up a pretty good fight.
Those look like GX270s. If so, they'll use an IDE hard drive. I'm not aware of any buyers for them. If they're GX280s, though, a lot of them ran SATA HDDs.
now thats the ticket. care to share where was obtained from. free or bought?. awsome score none the less.
Bought. Still under $5 apiece into them with purchase, tax, and renting the uhaul to get them all at once. Not gonna get rich with it, but I think I'll clear a few bucks.
Funny thing: that was 5 pallets. I could've quite likely got 5 more at similar prices had I been willing to bite off that much. I guess these depressed prices have finally shaken out the weak. I must admit, I haven't pursued things nearly as hard at these prices. A couple years ago here, and those lots would have gone for at LEAST 10 bucks per computer. Probably 15.
A few years ago, those may have been refurbishable. Now, though, they're scrap machines.
Check for really large hard drives, and 1GB sticks of RAM. Some buyers will still pay for those items, boosting the value. As long as your shipping isn't too bad, I think you'll do fine. You may never want to see another GX270, though.... ;)
I wondered how I would make out when I bought that truckload at .14 a lb but I'm still cashing in stripped power supplies and other misc. I know I cleared over 300 on a $105. investment.Quote:

Good job on a great load.
Congrats on the score, at least you piled them up nice and neat, that has to count for something ;)
Also, nice set up on the post, I was jealous when I saw the kitchen...I almost spat coffee on my keyboard when I saw the living room. Hope your wife doesn't spit too much on you during your explanation...
Thanks for sharing your home e-porn! At least they are stacked neetly she has to give you that. Great score!
Good luck with that!!! I have motorcycle and snowmobile engines in my dining room along with about 3 tool boxes. But my wife left 7 years ago so I'm good! Better stop at the Flower Shop ASAP!
Are you scrapping them all or are you trying to sell parts? If your scrapping the ones that are standing up, try dropping them on the concrete (in an inconspicuous location)...
My kid would have that turned into a fort when I wasn't looking
or knock em down dominoes..
Nice score!!!
You can't hide from your wife in that fort too well!
Nice score, let us know the math after you break it all down. I am hesitant to spend money right now with the market being so weak so I try to get it all for nothing or close to $0 as possible
The hours I put into breaking it all down does not justify more than maybe $3 at the most per machine- that's if they are not gutted already ( memory , cpu removed etc)
I did 50 of those once, when you get going you become like a machine tearing those babies down :)
And I don't dare bring the scrap units into the house ( rebuilds to sell are OK) but I get the stink eye from the wife for those too if they start to pile up.
It may be awhile on the math. I'm very seriously considering holding onto the mobos until gold recovers. #1.20 a pound is the best I've found so far local, If that's all I get, this may well turn into a losing deal. :(
Hindsight's 20/20, but had I known there were no harddrives I wouldn't have taken this on. Even just 80GBs fetch 2 bucks apiece. That was going to be my profit. But I had to jump fast & hope. I can't believe the IT guy didn't nab the RAM when he was in there taking out the HDs.
Meh... ya live, ya learn. (now which room can I hide a gaylord full of mobos in? LOLOL)
I'm not 100 percent sure, but those optiplex 280's should have copper heatsinks inside them. I broke a bunch of them down last year and they all had copper heatsinks, which was a nice surprise. Hopefully your results will show the same. Nice score
Copper would be schweet, but they're CU/Al... which surprisingly returns LESS THAN 6063 Al around here. (?????) :-/
I'm about 1/3 of the way through them... when I get on a roll I can do one in about 2 minutes as long as everything cooperates.
My local Kroger is holding back a few gaylords for me for the power supplies & mobos.
can you post a pic of the heatsink? I forgot what ones come out of those. I may know how to get the copper out
Which exact model are these? Have you checked for the market for parts for these? You most likely would still break down most of them but on some older models there is a limited market for parts. Do yourself a favor and determine if there is a market. Testing the parts before you break them down is the easiest way to go. If you don't have a good hard drive with OS then get a copy of a 32 bit copy of one of the Linux OS. Ubuntu, Linux lime, Kubuntu, Linux lite. Lots to choose from and they are all free. Good luck, Mike
Geez! My wife flipped out when I had HD tear down in front of the TV. Good Luck!
There's 2 different kinds.

Top one in this pic looks for all the world like it's solid Al, but it's way too heavy. Ratt bastard file reveals a copper core in the bottom part, with Al fins.
Bottom one is in maybe 10-15% of these units, and looks to be ~15 or 20 cents worth of Cu in a block at the bottom, then a couple of Cu 'pipes'. ... Unless I could get that block out in about 2 seconds and not a high risk of slicing off a finger, I'm not really interested in fighting with it.
Just finished the last disassembly. *WHEW*
Not biting off that much again anytime soon!!!
mess around with the one on the top. the fins are soldered on.
I used to sit watching TV and bend the fins back and forth, but there must be easier ways.
Well, I just returned from the yard selling the heat sinks, power supplies, CD drives, et al.
I have all the RAM, and pinned/pinless CPUs separated & weighed & fixing to hopefully stuff all 43 pound of them into on large flat rate addressed to Ohio.
If I sold every motherboard at the current best local rate I can find ($1.20/pound)... and knowing what I oughta get for the Ohio shipment... and knowing what I got today...

I'll only lose 500 bucks and 50 hours of my time on this fiasco.:k:(
Knowing what I know now, I'd think twice if someone offered to GIVE ME those 411 computers. v:)
No more buying scrap for me. Not til the market recovers, anyway.
Time to lick my wounds & unwind:

the problem with those was that they were all small socket boards............Without hard drive my current price would be around .10/lb.......which equals out to about $2 each........Lesson learned and looks like you are already moving on.....LOL
Yep. I didn't research adequately before I jumped in, and like Led Zepplin said...

I was hoping to make another offer on another truckload but this time I think I can still make money at .12 lb but not .14. The market dropped a little more after I bought the other load at .14 so at .12 I might still make the same profit. (cross fingers)
