Really, where? I get pretty good rates on ewaste and my yard downgraded flatscreens (except plasma) and rear projection to shred pricing about 6 months ago. I guess it all depends on whose buying on the other end...
All these Flat Screens now being trashed just like CRT's! I would like to know as well what people are doing with them other than shred...
ummm...WHY? Oh wait, they didn't think anyone would notice LOL.
There are some higher grade boards in those. They ae easy to get to and pull out as well. Now LCD monitors are somewhat more work. I have always gotten $2+ each for the panels on LCD monitors unless they are cracked/scratched....so I put those aside after stripping EVERYTHING else out to sell (note these have to be 15' or larger)....also a great extra income from stripped laptop screens.
I would LOVE to see prices on these go higher. I know there is some recoverable things in the screens (not sure the exact makeup), so hopefully this will be a trend. Same for the screens from LCD/LED TV's and even the small screens from all the electronic items out there. ::CROSSES FINGERS:: please be another source of $$$$
Indium is in flat screens. Electrode material
That's right...I remember reading that. I just refreshed myself on it...hopefully the recovery process for that is getting better. this along with the demand for panels should push the marker higher on Indium as well, making it more feasible to recover it for resale.
I think some are refurbished too
I pull everything including cutting the 2 power wires that go to the panel (I even pull the flat long board that has the gold mylar) and sell all that is left...so yeah the front panel with the metal surround I guess for $2 each. Unless something has changed since I took my last set, I still should be getting that.
Are they aluminum holding the pannel
They can also be reused. Since "More than Scrap Value" buyers are looking, that gives the recycling places an outlet to resell. If the screens are working (Just the LCD), they can be used to repair a cracked LCD monitor.
That's not done for a lot of them, but for some....
I think most of them go overseas
Any I can sell as useable I do...the issue is that the last 15" ones I had, I barely could get $8-10 for them and that was after they SAT for some time. People want at least 17" widescreen now and rightly so (I have a 27" and a 24" on my main rig). I am sure they get refurbished/reused to some degree. I sell **** near any laptop screen that works on ebay as replacement parts if I can. At some point, I just need to move them out of the way, so they get scrapped. I have to make room for new stuff and he money is just sitting there.
Just wanted to be clear. I reuse ANY equipment I can, but some things no one wants...what can you do. ::shrugs:: You take the $2 and the rest of the boards and move on.
I do refurbs as well but sometimes cost to refurb is more than value .....I have around 50 working dells with bases all 17"+ I save for cheap refurbs but would part with them for right price
One thing to think about is depending on monitor, parts do sell like bases, power boards, etc on ebay. All depends on monitor and grade. Cheap 50 dollar walmart monitor, probaly not. But a 200 dell or samsung, then hell yea lol
After attending a speaking event at the E-Scrap Conference in October, I learned that there is a net negative value for shredding or manually breaking down LCDs, the Indium is so fine most of it is often lost in the plastic shred which also becomes contaminated with mercury (one of the highest costs) if shredded. They are purchasing them for parts, reuse or both. There isn't much investment in Indium recovery as it is still in such small quantities that 100% recovery isn't going to boost the value much. Couple this with the advent of LED TVs, which if I am not mistaken do not use Indium, so the demand and price has come down. LCDs will be the new CRTs as LCD demand is overtaken by LED units. Good news however is there is no toxic materials in LEDs and are shred-able, albeit at a small positive value.
LED vs LCD is just a difference in BACKLIGHTING...LCD using CCFL mainly (contains MERCURY SO BE CAREFUL)...LED just uses led's instead of the CCFL. ALL that to say, the panels themselves DO contain Indium...as does all touch screen items.
The average lifespan of LCD's in the market are approaching the time they will be phased out, so look for MANY more of these to enter the recycling stream. IE be prepared and hopefully this will allow them to be recycled at a net positive $$$ amount.
I've been scrapping flatscreens for awhile now.
an I take great joy in doing so.
So since the flatscreen according to some of you is about to become the new tube, this mean I can count on everyone hating flatscreens as much as tubes? I'm ok with that. Lord knows I've done well enough on tvs an monitors of all shapes an sizes.
Oh an I will scrap every single one. No ebay, no amazon, no yard sales...to the yard or a buyer it shall go. An I will laugh an evil laugh while doing so an twirling my non-existent bad guy mustache.
Flatscreens are bad. Don't deal with them. /coughcough
Sirscrapalot - Yes, I said I'd scrap it. Here's a tissue.
Check out 'badcaps.com' to see how to fix flat screens. Most of the time its bad capacitors, bad connections etc etc.
You can search model numbers to find out what goes wrong with that model, and fix it.
Of the two I checked, 1 was a bad cap, the other was the mylar connection to the screen, not enough pressure to hold it in place. As the screen warms up, it expands, at a different rate than the mylar connection.
So I had a ghost image towards the bottom left of the screen. Free fix!!!!
Plasma screen have a full sheet of Ali behind the screen, you only have to undoo 455 screws to get to it..........
But, grab the boards, friend had to pay $400 for one to fix his flatscreen.
What I would like to know is, what's the thin flat chip mounted across the mylar connector, what does it do?
It does seem to have Gold connection wires on it, making it valuable.
wonder how much time passed between the different types of TV's produced for the buying public.
Black and white TV tubes to color ones, then CRTs, to CRT's, to plasma, projection and LED's and 3 D somewhere in there... and more I am sure. Things don't always get better, new ones must be replaced or don't work as long. Look at fridges the new ones don't last nearly as long as the old ones used to. It could be just me I still have a flip phone!
Hey you guys I need some clarification. I respect the longtime posters on here and I dont want to step on any feet, is there a premium section on the forum that we can buy into. If not I have an idea. Im going to open up my secrets and lets have a real conversation on the fourm open for a few months or a few posts then try to take it a new way maybe a pay section for all this great info. Im saying this because Ive noticed on some fourm no one want to give out secrets all the time, so heres an idea. Stickies in a payed section where we pay a small fee like I dont know 5 bucks a month or get nominated to to see it. A section that has no holds barred. Okay Ive been doing scrap like a mad scientist and still learn from the newest 10 post member. LOL.
Lets do a few really indepth posts then shut it off or go normal and see what people say. SO this post could be a lcd stick post your privileged or paid access would get you. Maybe with pics and all that.
The lcd yes they are full of good parts. Okay I know what is happening is ewaste buyers are holding off on grading just like we do in cats. Why certain boards like cats are washed or the good secret stuff is removed and the assay comes back messed up and guy taking all the risk and putting out the most capital is eating it all.
One moment imagine being the low end guy and top end buyer. Low end guy gets lcd and just tried to get off as shred he is doing steel maybe millions pounds of steel. He is low end crt guy okay low end guy could be billion dollar somone you know what I mean.
Low end crt guy just wants to get off it or he charges his customer like I do for lcd and gets off with his crt screens he is paying to get rid of. Maybe this low end guy like me actually knows ewaste every well but just dont have money or resources or time to do volume his thing is do volume but in and out whole charge a fee to take and pay to get rid of and make margin in middle.
The middle lcd guy comes to a guy like me and says hey I dismantle them Ill take for free. I the low end guy says awesome I have hundreds or thousands of them a month coming in and now giving to you I dont have to pay to get rid of sweet. Middle guy takes stuff down the right way grades like I will say the boardsort way but sells local or even on toll basis. Now this is guy the High end collectors who gather boards from love right. They buy boards collect grade and ship gaylord amounts maybe half trailers to who colt extrada etc etc , some may ebay this stuff and big money and lcd parts some model. There is so much value in these we are missing. The refiners guys may not even know it because they are doing huge batches and mixing boards, buying boards like the lcd tuner boards by mid grade green, like a dvd satalite tuner type board. BUt they are doing whole batches and making a percent of recovery plus a fee to do it plus copper , you know solder all the stuff.
I think a this is how it should go for best profit for a us. We get lcd tvs, instead of sending with my crt stuff, as long as the crt guys are not charging less for the crt monitors because the lcd makes them more than its okay for me to do. NOw Id pay employee to process and no i dont want to fill a gaylord of lcd boards. I want to contact someone on the gold forum and say look Ill ship the tuner boards if you want because I guess they dont have value but we all knwo they do. THere is special stuff hidden, not alot but the midlde sized business buyers are the ones you really want to work with, the are not just doing huge batches and then mixing with copper they are actually sub sub grading and looking at each component and seeing what to do with it. LCD Id no power supply bin , inverter board , inverterwith gold fingers, wires, by grade, now you have various differnt adged and quality boards called tuner boards. ITs all about when these were made by who and what process. THe process is so important. Really is I mean what fab and how small is process stuff before 2009 and def any dram (im talking look at the ic chips on board learn to read date codes) can tell you fab, date made and you can then contact a geek who knows what what used for base or platium group metals for what reasons.
The q boards im tellling big big money it helps regualte color. Look electronics in a any lcd is analog digital analog digital. All this whole ewaste stuff is so simple imagine your tv or computer or anything you see traces on is a thing that reads a lot of yes or no, or off a and on or hot or cold or slow or fast. All were doing with an electroinic device is making a yes or no off or on type choice and its a one or zero or its in a analog device hot or cold or high voltage then lower. The best most best paying electonics are the older you can go mix of analog to digital or analog digital mix stuff. Old camcorders. OMG super super hit, older medical stuff you think a cheap dell pc or lcd is worth something get some medical stuff that cost real money and see what so any tantalum and pgm stuff you wont sleep.
Where am I q boards and now the screens china has been holding the worlds record for making these rare earth metals appear from nowhere for all our phones and tvs guess what there goverment and Basel are really cracking down. I say good for them we are destroying the earth adn peoples health for you to have another tv. WHen the old non led tv you just bought in 2008 is still complete somwhere. The Rare earth metals are going to making some ewaste guys stupid rich and its good for the planet. WHo wants to really recycle ewaste please contact me or someone who has been on this fourm for awhile.
The screens are worth more than all the other stuff, look we should be doing this like the lead acid battery business. There is a reason The lord let this junkie get clean and recycle 20 million pounds of batteries. It works, ITs not perfect getting the batteries to the smelters but when they are there its better this hazardous job get done in our country than anywhere else in the world. The world demands it and outside the borders of the USA we really cant tell others how to recycle. Okay were not the police so I say lets keep doing what we are doing keep this stuff stateside and build the infrastructure here in the USA
The USA can recycle 99 percent off all lead acid batteries old in the country 50 billion dollar a year sales by the way with no modern smelter emissions released but all the crt glass we have in our country no one wants..... ITs lead folks and shipping it to china or Africa is bs the country doesnt drop our crap on your unless you deserve it if you do then here comes a Big old warehead that our service guys are going to hand right on bomb MADE IN THE USA, bunker busters!!!
That guy tricked a few extremest into fly an plane into our trade centers PLEASE we dropped our crap all over his caves then sent the finest men and women in the country to finish it. GOD BLESS THE USA we got the resources. Dont mess with us, so lets keep our ewaste in the USA, this ewaste stuff is the raw materials that is used to make it new in the first place like lead acid batteries do they mine lead for batts no. WHy would you buy a lcd tv at walmart or iphone if the china one said said designed in USA but of china soil or the (my IDEA) the new apple designed in USA with balls big as elephants recycled in USA remade in USA Built in USA WORKING IN USA GOD BLESS THE USA. Okay look heres the truth a ex junkie who found Jesus knows this you gota tell Obama this for me will you.
This ewaste thing can save our country, it is America works we are all addicted to phones epecially apple. What ever China makes the stuff not because they just have cheap labor folks they have the resources in the ground !!!!! And a goverent that was letting them kill and steal to get it out as fast as they could. NOw we bought as a country bought 5 or 10 years worth of phones tvs and ipads guess what we have all we need in this USA to get Apple to make the next iphones IN AMERICA, CHina is out of the easy RRE rare earth Metals, they know it the cheap labor is not in china anyways china is like us now we need a wage to live, SO we all have this stuff we will want to buy the next iphone call apple you want scrap forums to be big get this going we all do ewaste its all from china it dont need to be now we have all the resources condensed in our scrap we dont need tons or ore in china, thank you china you did all the hard work now Were AMericans were taking our pride back, If Jobs was alive he would agree with me, some one know Mark Cuban or any of the Sharks this is a chance to make America work again, were addicted to technology we own the patents you guys companies Like Mircron just lease their ideas to the large fabs now. We sold our cows for milk yes its true but the USA is so great we drank the milk and now like with this ewaste we can take the milk from our urine and turn it back into cows. AMERICA CAN FARM AGAIN> I dont mean food we can farm industry. We gota do something soon.
THis is viable so please you guys let press on send your boards to a refiner who does small batches here in states and I mean maybe like even ups box sizes. They will pay you fair, maybe you will lose out on copper value or a few mlcc grams I dont know but I think my STILLWATER Recycling can sell to a guy on this fourm or the gold forum and keep our stuff stateside if we dont allow it to go back to china one were keeping gold silver and platinum here in the states exactly what you want in a country like the USA thats got a dollar that is worth crap agaist where it use to be and should be for the worlds superpower. If the rare earth metals are here in the country in ingot or semi pure forum guess what new its viable for Apple or samsung to open a plant like the auto makers in America did and then we work. Or you can just do what is easy from now and we keep the crap happing. .
Wow i got off topic. The electronics business is absolutely huge over seas do you have any idea how much power resources were wasting shipping this stuff over there like we are now. AMERICA IS buying it all new ......... Lead acid batteries were once never recycled like this it at 99percent now 50 billion dollars of batteries each year dont you tell me ewaste it wont happen. I dont want to s ee that ewaste go to 99 percent but keep going to china.
You all better elect me president so this can change this is not no stupid crap I made up, open your eyes or guess what we will be in very very tough shape in America, if something doenst change this is best its going to get.
Back to lcd oh yea the lights dont throw them out lol please and the remotes are worth more sold on ebay than the whole lcd scrapped for value.
Long live Stillwater

Spoke to my local buyer and they literally take the bases off of them take 2 flat screen monitors, wrap them "face to face" and duct tape them together, then carefully pack a gaylord with cardboard between the layers. While I waited for a check to be cut the other day I stood and talked to a guy who packed nearly a gaylord as he spoke with me. They ship overseas.. they are NOT being destroyed.. they are being "upcycled" in other parts of the world!
Thus the reason that if the screens are cracked or won't pass the light test.. they are not worth paying for or very little from the buyers end of it.

Your posts are becoming a bit manic. What I can tease out from your post is that we can recycle everything here, saved resources can go into production in the US because of the savings? Problem with that is labor costs. You just cannot compete with Asia in that regard. 90%+ of known Rare Earth deposits are in China; mining companies outside China set up claims on the other known remaining 10% but China artificially deflates the price of Rare Earth metals by processing and selling at a loss until other companies have to shut their doors. Easy to do when their economy is mostly state-run. AKA the "amazon strategy" operate at a loss if you have to because the small mom-n-pop shops can't survive that war of attrition for long. There is a lot of exciting research and patents coming out with regard to processing Rare Earth metals but we maybe 2 years away from a working process and who knows how long after that until it is economically viable, at least on this side of the globe.
If they work, Matador buys them, if non-working, they go in the trunk of a car going to shred.
these should not be going to shred...there are several boards in there (same as computer boards) with various heavy metals etc that are dangerous to the environment....this is WHY we recycle those things differently. YES a chunk of the stuff end up being steel, but some other stuff should be recycled correctly.
I would reread some of the posts and articles on the dangers of stuff like that not being recycled correctly.
Exactly.
Most of the value is in the resale, usually for export. I have about 4 local buyers for LCD’s, 3 of them are exporters. And yes, they prefer the bases removed, so they can be neatly stacked for shipping. I never scrap any LCD’s unless the screens are cracked, as none of the buyers want those.
Usually I get $2-6 for most 15-19” units, $10-15 for 19”+ wide screen models. I love to get them, as I don’t pay for them and there is minimal work involved. Last week I got 160 units from one of my regular large customers, will be a nice payday!
I find it odd that nobody in here mentioned that there is more than scrap value in these as long as the screens are not cracked or goughed. For me every one that is working or not goes in a crate and once full ill send them to cashforcomputerscrap.com. They are paying 6.50 for 17" monitors. I smile larger every time I see one now. I say all this and have yet to send anything here. Im still sitting in limbo from the 172 I sent to another buyer here and they came in damaged. They say that the ins claims can take 90 days. I do know that when I sent my firts shipment to ewasted at the site I mentioned earlier I was so pleased that unless they just cannont compeite with another establishments prices they have my nest pallet of LCD's headed their way.
I ask the buyer to pay shipping so I just see every monitor now as a 5$ bill and I like free 5$ bills. How a bout you
