Anyone deal with boats?

I think this is the right place...technically a boat is a vehicle yes? lol...if not..someone kindly move it to the proper spot please. ;)

Anyhow..

As the title says..anyone deal with boats? I may be in need of a part for a boat an figured I'd check with my fellow SMF'ers to see if anyone deals with boats and/or their parts. Would prefer to work with forum folks.

So if so..say so, so I know who to bug when I know if the part I need is what I need...LOL.


An..if not..someone needs to make this niche their own. ;)

It's a tilt trim pump. Raises an lowers the motor. I was told folks familiar with boats would know the part. Bleh. I'm trying to help a buddy find one used, as a new one is rather costly.

I'll try an get another photo later but having issues with my phone an the sim card. So it's not saving photos or anything else at the moment.

Tilt trim pump....is that a small hydraulic pump powered by a 12V electric motor?

Kinda like a snowplow lift pump?

Does it have any valves built onto the pump?

I'm asking the questions because you might find something similiar but not for boats because anything for a "play toy" (like boats) is expensive. Check with Northern tool or Surplus Center once you know roughly what kind of pump you need.

An Saw, yes..if I'm thinking of what your talking about on a snowplow..similar to that but for a boat, no clue if it makes a difference. It's a nice boat. Not super fancy, but not a dinghy or john boat either.

As I said above I'll get the info off the part an see if that helps. I'm not doing the best job in the world describing it. LOL.

I used to commercial fish and have had some experience with boats. What is the problem you are having? What is the make model year of the boat and motor? What type of boat is it. What is the intended use for the boat?

I have pumps like that but I won't be able to get at them until the future.

Now if I could just get my Time Machine working properly, I could go and get the parts from the future and then come back with them.

I have no problem traveling into the past, but I can't get it to travel into the future much more then a few hours so far.

Been working on it for years making it out of spare parts and such.

Whats it powered by you may wonder?

It's powered by Fabaceae Alternating Rumbling Technology.

A bit like Doc Browns DeLorean DCM 12 without the bucket seats...

I do enjoy my TIME travel even tho it's a short trip most times.

If I can just raise the octane level a bit I might have it.

Tried some good shine and it blew out a gasket.

I always found the concepts of time travel interesting. I'm not a "space cadet" in that I have never been much on the fantasy and fictional reality that seems very popular.

I have always preferred a solid foundation from which to build on. I like putting plenty of thought into most all that I do in my day to day Life.

I realise that it's tough for those that take the "Al Bundy route" or the super star route where you don't have much TIME for yourself.

I have always greatly enjoyed my space as I like being as comfortable as is possible in a real world.

When you are your own best friend it has it's down side as well as it's advantages.

Here is a favorite little diddy of mine:

sometimes I sleep a little
sometimes I sleep a lot

sometimes I work a little
sometimes I work a lot

but in the end it all evens out.

It has to do with having the correct "buffer zone" that works for you without blowing up the planet.

I Live in the Land O Lakes so I have had many boats and such over the many years. Not much for boats around here now, but as for the small parts for them and engine parts and such, yep got it.

Imangne the room in the Indiana Jones movie where they take the crated Ark of the covenant and wheel it into a warehouse that has crates everywhere piled high and wide.

My place is a bit like that but not as organized.

it works for me and my dog anyway...

Hope you find your boat part as a quality pump ain't easy to find at a bargain.

I had a buddy that thought he would save some money when the fuel pump on his Suzuki side kick went bad. He ordered one after the other of the cheap pumps off eBay that claim they will fit. He spent more on that then he would of if he had just bought a quality pump that was made for the vehicle. He even had to buy a couple used gas tanks and such at the repairable yards as he would cut the tops up trying to get the pumps he would buy to fit.I have the cut up tanks and cheap pumps laying around here somewhere,lol...

I have more faith in my SMF'ers then I do eBay.

Hence why I'm asking here. ;)

I hear you on the trying to buy a quality pump on eBay.

I tried telling my bud, but I think he got hit in the head with a cheap metal folding chair and tossed out of the ring a few times to many.

He would just chew his chaw, drool a bit and say "are we getting anything done" in a squeaky gravely voice that goes up and down depending on how excited he gets.

That is the problem with quality made items. Because the demand is so much higher then the supply of good used or NOS, you end up coughing up the cash for the proper new replacement part.

But you never know, you might just find a pump in a haystack as it's much bigger then a needle,lol...

I have them but the haystack is bigger then I care to search.

That is the thing with childhood dreams, you chase them until the day you die. I'm still working on mine.

There is quite a collection of outboard motors and out drive parts over at the junk yard in Wanchese.

If local was an option I'd not be here.

So..let's recap.

I need said pump.

I don't like eBay.

Going local isn't much of an option.

I'd rather do business with folks on SMF, if one has the part needed. If not, other avenues will be explored.

Will update later with boat info and any part info I can pull off.

Till then...go scrap some boats so you can help me out.

It would be easy if any such boats with said parts were here. I have never had any boats of size here at the yard as I do Live in the land of lakes.

The pumps such as you might require are mostly from auctions, sales and trades over the years.

The farmers auctions can have most anything you could think of in boxes of stuff and junk.

When I read such topics as this it sort of lights a fire in the boiler and gets me thinking more in the direction of being motivated in my older age.

I have a slight idea of where some boat parts may be stored and I am doing things out around the yard these days as the weather is nice.

I'm just waiting for it to get light enough outside so I can see well enough to find my good flashlight.

@miked-unless you like staying up late and talking on the phone, re-think that exchange numbers idea. Ever see that insurance commercial...thats what you are in for!!!

I meant no disrespect to you or anyone else with boats when referring to them as "toys". I just don't like the j*rk*ffs who sell the stuff tend to price it higher because they figure that anyone using that equipment "can afford it". Makes my blood boil.

Same thing for things like quads or dirt bikes or camper trailers....the list goes on and on where the list price is up in the stratosphere for no reason but greed.

I forgot where I had posted this, good thing it made the homepage!

So..need a Tilt trim pump, for a 140hp force engine. I was told by the owner of said boat that up to 150 hp would work. Doesn't need to be duplicate of the old one.

if it's not hydraulic, I've got an electric trim lift from a bayliner, Volvo Penta - the kind that has the electric motor/screw shaft lift. getting ready to part it out and sell on ebay, they apparently bring pretty good money. they hydro pumps are pretty common and don't bring as much...
