So eBay won't let me sell ANYTHING in the "Computer Parts" category. They say my account is too new. Stupid eBay and their stupid seller limits!

Can you expand on what happened. Yes i believe ebay is stupid too.
Uhh.. So are you required to open an account and then let it sit idle for "X" number of days or months?
That is stupid! I figure they would want you to start selling selling selling so they can get their Final Value Fees and Paypal cut!
No, actually, that's the catch! You have to have a SELLER account for 90 days before you're allowed to sell in certain categories. So I have to find SOMETHING to sell, but it can't be what I actually have to sell. And of course, perfect reviews and all that jazz.
Limits on eBay sellers
Used to be that they just held the funds for a while.
Ebay would only allow me to list one laptop per month for the first 3 months. It is what it is. This is one of the smallest problems you will have with ebay. On the other hand it is the best at what they offer for a market place.
Be prepared to refund even when you should not be required. Good luck, Mike
Ha ha! I'm no longer the lone voice against all things eBay. Yey!
An save it fans of eBay. You know my views an I know yours. No need to go down that road again.
An cue the Cheers for ebay!
;)
Sirscrapalot - Ha ha, ho ho, hee hee.
Ebay has it's issues but I can't complain with all the money I put in my pocket from ebay............It's like making a deal with the DEVIL.......LOL
Ebay not worth the stress for me...even tho I may miss out on some money, for me the potential money isn't worth the headaches. JMHO
Sorry you're having prob's, hope it's resolved soon. I don't keep track, but it seems they roll out new rules rather often.
Call the customer service line and play dumb and be nice and they will lift the restriction.
You weren't the lone voice before. I know I am not nearly as vocal about it but i ranted last month and closed my ebay account. lol
I got them on the phone and when all i got was BS after BS answers and none of my money back (i sold an item that the person opened a case, said it didn't match the description, never sent it back to me, and got a refund anyway) I deleted my account and right there while I was on the phone with them and told them to go F themselves. Doesn't sound like me at all, does it? lol
Fine..I was one of a few voices against them. Well before you joined Phred. I don't think I've gone on a eBay rant this year. Last year I did, an the year before..now..not so much. It's all good tho, if folks use them..good for them, if they don't..good for them to
Whatever..point remains the same. I'm not the only one.
I'll share my cookie with you tho. ;)

So is there an alternative?
Marketing your stuff to billions of people is probably going to cost you more then the fee's and occasional loses from using Ebay.
Your problem is temporary as long as you provide what you describe.
nope no real alternative...
I make alot of money from them with little to no issues because I protect myself and learned how to deal with the rules (and to play to my advantage). It's like any other business thing, you have to protect yourself and learn the game...and then WIN by their rules.
and for those wondering, I don't offer refunds on MOST of my items, buyers play shipping including my handling charge on every item, I have a fairly extensive terms and conditions and I have a debit card for my paypal account where I can pull monies IMMEDIATELY and not wait 3 days to get to my bank.
All in what you like or are willing to deal with to make the $$$ that can be made. Where else can I put up a BROKEN or NON WORKING smartphone and have it sold in 3 days or less? hint - not craigslist.
High amount of fraud = more rules for the users to deal with.
I stopped selling on Ebay after they allowed buyers to retract their payments for any reason at any time ....
Edit: last thing I sold on Ebay was a Pentium 2 cartridge processor for $10 ...
ebay is a pain in the butt, but I deal with it (so far).
I hate their policies and loved the old days a lot more. I started on eBay by purchasing an advertising pamphlet for a school bus manufacturer in the 50s. I thought it was neat, and it only cost about $10. I found that there was another pamphlet he had that didn't sell. I talked to the buyer, and he agreed to throw it in for another $5 (opening bid). I sent him a Post Office money order, and received my stuff... before he even got the money order.
That was about 10 years ago. Today, it's not that great. The rules are too strict in my mind, but they probably were needed. The times have changed. Now, there are too many dishonest buyers and sellers. I grew up in the 90s, and I can't seem to identify with today's world at all.

lmbo matador... I grew up in the 60-70's... you should try "identifying" from THERE :p
Totally with you on the dealing with fleabay 'so far' tho ;)
I have alternatives..whether they'll work for you or not..is the question.
They'll just be shot down, so no I won't share them. Despite what others will tell you there is life after eBay.
I do just fine with my resales. If some are stuck at the hip to eBay an see them as the only place..more power to them.
Nobody said it's easy, but there are plenty of ways to sell without eBay.
YMMV..me I'm quite happy with mine.
Sirscrapalot - not drinking the kool-aid.
Sadly, I didn't experience the "good old days" too much. I don't fit in today- that's a good thing!
Depending on where you're at, there may be non-ebay options. I've done pretty well with the local facebook classifieds group for some things. But, sadly, eBay is best for a lot of parts. But, I'd survive without eBay too.
I still prefer the 2004 eBay, though. Of course, Craigslist used to be a better place too ;)
Due to an extended relocation, I have pulled all my eBay listings. I have been going through withdrawals but I am surviving. Will likely start listing there again after the relocation is finished but doing ok so far...
:k
You'll make it through. Dark times I know.
Hang in there.
Be glad your not a gamer an suffering withdraw you'd be running around pushing buttons.
Sirscrapalot - First step is admitting you have a problem.
i've been using ebay since november 2001 but it was not till this summer till i opened up my ebay store. have not had to much trouble with ebay so far.
but i don't sell scrap metal or e-scrap on ebay though. i mainly sell remote control helicopters and remote control helicopter parts on my ebay account. i can't complain too much i have made some money on the side other than my junk car hauling as a 2nd income.
Sir I'm curious about some of your other avenues for resale, I've only tried Kijiji (Where you Americans ripped off Craiglist from ;) ) so far, and only have good luck for certain things, mostly bikes, nothing small. And especialy nothing for parts
I run both at the same time , and if it doesn't sell on either >> Comes back in parts on eBay
