Hey everyone! After almost two years of scrapping out of a Honda CRV, I have finally upgraded to a truck. Today I got a 2004 Ford F-150 long box with a whopping 84,000 miles on it. Paid around 7000 for it. This will allow me to start hauling in larger loads and not have to worry about messing up the interior of the CRV!

when I got mine it had 97,000 miles on it and appeared to have never hauled anything...........I freaked out the first couple of scratches and dents........Now as long as I don't knock out the taillights or back windows I'm good!!!!......LOL............Long bed is what you need good choice!!!!!!!

Before you let the tailgate down to unload; make sure you don't leave anything on the bumper when your stepping on the gate while its down. I left a nice huge dent from a hammer I left on the bumper on my first truck.
Yeah, OK, I looked again, and that truck is too pretty for this job. How about trading it with me? I'll find you something nicely pre-dented and pre-scratched. It'll be a sacrifice for me, but I don't want you to suffer the mental anguish of messing up your truck. ;-)
Wow what a beauty! Be next to impossible to find that body style ford up here with no rot! Must be a reaaaal early 2004 though. Ford came out with the new styling in 04 if im not mistaken. Either way, nice clean truck man!!
Says it's made in Canada on the door sticker! :) That's what I'm thinking as well, because all the photos from 2004 are the new body style. Thankfully it's the old motor type from before Ford decided to go all stupid and make the sparkplugs a pain in the butt to remove.Quote:

My Dad has two F150's, one for farming and one for hunting. The 03 is the hunting truck and the 04 is the farming truck. They are the same body style. The 04 got rear ended and I've been looking for a replacement for him so I've seen a lot of these. The 04's that look like the 03's are called Heritage model. The 04's with the step up front door window are the New style. My Dad refuses to get the one with the step up because he likes to ride with his arm on the door with the window down.
I'm really surprised you got one of these with low mileage. That engine is the good one also and you should get a lot of use out of it. Dad's trucks have 185,000 and 275,000 miles on them.
Now it's time for a trailer or two. Can usually get a deal on 4x8 or similar size single axle. Would make hauling in 2 ton pretty easy.

Bought a brand new 2000 Chevy 1 ton Crew Long Bed for the const biz that was still the old body...they were a year late in changing the one ton. They kept going on and on that it was the "Classic Body Style"...I was like whatever, just give me the keys so I can get back to work.
Lol, I was just gonna say. My truck was decent enough too and then it started getting mysterious scratches and dings when I scrapped and I swear nothing ever touched the sides!Quote:

How do you guys manage scrapping out of a 150? We use an F350 with a 14K gooseneck. What type of scrap are you guys hauling and how far?
Good choice on the Ford, but I would say $7000 for beater is kinda high! We paid $8,500 for a diesel.

Gravitar, I know your truck hasn't hit the 100k milestone yet, but if you're handy with a wrench and are familiar with changing them, it can be done....with A BUNCH of patience. You will need a 9 or 12" extension for your socket to reach down to them and still have decent room to ratchet from the top. I used Kroil, and like I mentioned in my previous post, I let it set overnight. Those plugs only have like 4 to 5 rings if I recall and they're a 2 piece plug. So, even with the penetrating oil on it I was still super careful. Any resistance over what I though was normal, I stopped and put more oil on it and went to the next plug. Also, the moment you get a 1/8 to 1/4 turn, stop and reverse it back in before continuing to take it out......baby those suckers! Breaking one off will require a not so cheap extraction tool and hours of time. I don't mean to scare, but I guarantee the $300-$400 quote you get from the dealer will more.....and if that't not enough, if they break it off, your qoute goes up drastically.
I know this isn't an F150 forum and I know I've said nothing regarding scrapping.....but that is what you bought this for and I'm just looking out for a fellow scrapper. ;)

I'm a part time scrapper, so I don't generally get involved in huge demos or industrial. However, I have loaded mine to the point where you would think the Beverly Hillbillies were coming to town. Even though mine is a 150, the 7700 package is rated just a few hundred lbs less than a 250. It has the larger brakes, 7 lugs and larger leaf springs like a 250 as well.

I'm pretty sure that that was only on the 4.6 and 5.4 V8. This one is a V6 so it doesn't have that problem. This one is a "heritage" model so it was made just before the new style came out. That means it's the exact same as the '03 so even if it hade a V8, it wouldn't have that problem.Quote:
