I believe I am going to offer 200. Because XP will not have support or updates after the 8th of this month.
If you think that you can sell them for 50.00 or more ea. then go for it. I think that most people that know anything about computers will not buy them with xp. If you could down load windows 7 or 8 then you would have a better chance of selling them. Just my .02
I dunno...I'm not sure I'd want to even spend $200 on them. I put windows 7 on some HP workstations with P4 3.6ghz and 4 gigs of ram..there was something to be desired with the performance.
Most of these are lacking in memory, hard drives aren't that great...CPUs aren't even good for the class.
Personally, I wouldn't want to spend more than $10 ea if I had to buy them.

Nothing special on that list. I would say all scrap. I'd offer up $30 for the bunch, and only go up to $40. With prices for scrap lately, that might even be paying too much.
Even *if* you can get Win7 licenses for free without running the risk of getting yourself in trouble, it will be awful with 512MB RAM and very slow with 1MB RAM and an old P4. So if you get these, you'll end up with a bunch of dated, low-spec machines and will have to do 11 OS installations, then testing to make sure all your drivers, etc., are good. Do you have an existing customer base in mind for these, or would you be looking to sell them on eBay? If it's eBay, just be aware that there's a lot of inventory like this on there already, and now that XP has officially "expired," companies and government agencies are flooding the market with these old generic HPs and Dells. They're being sold by the palette at auctions.
I like their being sold in pallet lots...Maybe they'll be cheaper for those of us that do this for scrapping, etc.

I agree completely with Caveman. The seller probably bought them @ auction for about $5 apiece and with a little bit of refurbing is trying to make some money. In fact, I suspect the seller already sold some of them one at a time and is trying to unload the rest as quickly as possible. $4-$5 per pc is as far as I would go and then I'd expect to net $3-$4 per in scrap. Only way I could feasibly see approaching the seller is by telling him what I do and offering to be his backup plan if he doesn't get them sold. Let him know you have cash in hand and you can pick them up now or whenever is good for the seller.

So that's 20 desktop computers, 4 servers, 21 keyboards, 35 monitors, 1 DeskJet Printer, and misc. other stuff (receipt printers, speakers, cables). All working, and all computers have hard drives.

those computers are scrap and the guy knows it............Mass produced junk not collectible or vintage and not new enough to run modern software
It's true. Many of the more recent computers will never be collectible. They're cheap disposables. Which is why e-waste is only going to become a bigger and bigger business.Quote:

ya I get pallets of 50 or more of these for no more than $150 and that's on a bad day most I get working complete for $2ea and non complete for less
$49.99 a peice. I'd sell individually, and i would give a scrapping business card to each person that bought one.. make money and advertise! But yes, here in erie they sell them p4 towers for close to nothing, but sell. Id price mine at $49.99 . Most value for the old pc's now a days is that they got microsoft word completely paid for. Any P4 outside of a few rare 3.8ghz EE editions never found in an OEM machine are worth just scrap. Are they collectable now, no. Will they be collectable in the future (15-20 years), sure just because everyone here will have scrapped them all. Collectable doesn't mean expensive either.
Sure you can sell a few high end loaded (upgraded RAM, dedicated video card, upgraded hard drive, legit Windows 7) P4's for $50 with monitor, keyboard, and mouse but there is no money in fixing them up let alone your time involved and forget about selling them in quantity.
The fact is any major or minor city has an army of refurbishing people who try to sell working computers of all types and the smart ones have connections for the more up to date scrap machines they need. The obsolete stuff is mostly recycled after sellers try to find a sucker to buy it for more then scrap.
I did end up offering 200 and he agreed to it. But I came and read what people thought on here and ended up declining. Also I had a some of them sold before even buying them until I mentioned that there was no monitor. And another guy said "XP no way". So it is what it is. After I told the guy that i had to retract my offer. I told him I do buy computers for recycling. but did not offer because I am sure he would have said no. He said "no worries, they will sell. I have had 3 other offers."

You have to be prepared to walk away from a deal otherwise you will pay too much to many times. The best saying I know is "Profit begins when you buy, not when you sell".

Yea, basically buy for scrap and anything you can refurbish and sell for more is gravy.
I could sell those all day long for $100 each - and people here want to destroy them ?!
Used computer shops sell stuff like that for well over $200 - 350 each !
Last computer I sold - Windows 2000, 75 mzh processor, 1.25 MB ram, and a 5 GB hard drive ... sold for $25
You know what you may be right. I know the people who sell those computers are not 'screwing' anybody. They have a business to run. Which is fine, but the stuff is older and out of date. As I stated XP has no support as of the 8th of April. I do not have a business though. I would end up selling to people I know more or less. With the responses I got before even having them in my possession. They were not gonna want them. I remember buying a computer as kid with my mom. I asked the guy if it could play games. Like real good games of the time. He said yes. So I got it. It did not do what I wanted. I was wondering then as a kid. Why did he sell it to me? I just can't do that kind of stuff.
