what do you stuff your scrap vehicle full of for more weight?

i was just wondering what you guys stuff the vehicle that you scrap full of, ill start:
in december i scrapped a 1995 gmc 1500ls 2wd i sold the bed for 60$, i broke out the back window and filled the cab full of aluminum windows with the glass still in them. then on top of that i broke the back and front window and filled the cab window hole full of long steel. after i had finished that my trailer jack was taking a good 2" out of the road, so i to a refrigerator ripped the door off and put it where the bed once was. then i filled it full of short steel and that gave me just enough to pull it and have 1" ground clearance. heres a link with a pic:

You stuffed a car with aluminum frames??? I just fill cars with general junk. I've got a pile I fill oil barrels that have been cut in two, refrigerators/freezers/stoves and anything that will hold something. But window frames get torn apart for (approx) .54 vs .05 a pound.

Since I usually keep the spare wheel/tire assemblies, I've found that the spare tire well of a junker is great for filling up with low-grade small metal junk from my shop. Oil filters (drained, of course), wiper blades, steel cans from oil/transmission additives, rusted-out mufflers and things like that. My yard treats me good on my steel, cars and aluminum, so I make sure anything I "stuff" with is strictly metal. They're probably glad to see my stuffing compared to the guys who try to sneak in wood, extra tires and junk like that.

I also get plenty of excess exhaust pipe that I cut off of my cats from my core business, so that goes in the clunkers, too. The good stuff like rotors, drums, steel wheels and hub assemblies get saved up for their own load. I need to stuff and scrap a car soon, my tin pile is getting huge 8-l

No way to justify the windows . Not at all . Wood cool . Aluminum not cool.Ok wood is not ok but steel windows work well. Please don't mix aluminum and steel. Ijs

Aluminum window frames are ridiculously easy to disassemble. Then take the die cast out of the corners. Die cast goes in one bucket. Glass goes to the landfill and aluminum goes in Extruded Aluminum barrel.

I stuff them with carcasses from microwaves, air conditioners, humidifiers. Nuts, bolts, nails, screws, all the smalls and anything I don't want to handle again.

my scrap yard does not care if i have the glass in them, there are already windows in the truck so they dont mind. i started this thread to get some good ideas to what common things i could throw in the vehicles to get alot more weight. i dont see why aluminum is not cool, it would still end up in the tin pile with the cab. my scrap yard seperates the cab and frame so they would end up in the same place

Yes, but this forum is about maximizing profits and learning, so when you say that you are getting shred price for AL window frames, its like swearing!!! For us, its like throwing money out the window.

You can get 0.55 to 0.75 cents a pound for extruded AL instead of .08 to 0.12 cents for shred...

i understand now, but do you have a recomendations for what to stuff it with that would go into tin anyways?

Anything that isnt non ferrous or cast like brake rotors. I throw in computer carcasses, old car parts, rims, anything ferrous really...

gutted computer towers smaller appliances thin wall pipe pretty much anything ferrous that is not worth cutting down i gotta get a car in soon to fill up as i have about 20 empty pc towers that need to go

We are allowed five tires per car. They want them to have the rims with. I also throw in light weight stuff like lawn chairs, rain gutter, extra car seats, and car body parts, ductwork, weedeaters and other junk that isn't worth tearing down. I will take the heavy iron out of the car because that goes as number 2 prepared iron that is worth more than car bodies. I also throw in bikes, refrigerator doors, Tin weber BBQ grills and that kind of stuff.

Well around here we have 3 main grades of scrap. Number 2 is iron 18"x3' that's called prepared. Then you have unprepared, that's anything over three feet. Then you have light tin and car bodies. So usually there is a 30 to 40 dollar per ton price spread between prepared and unprepared. Because that's how much it costs the yard to cut it down. Then car bodies are usually 20 dollars a ton lower than unprepared. The cars and tin have too be baled and shipped by truck to a shredder and it costs the yard more to ship by truck instead of rail. Do you guys that live closer to a shredder get paid the same for everything ?

Because brake rotors will bring #1 iron pricing.

lawn furniture, appliances, ewaste leftovers, basically anything with ferrous metal on it except drums, rotors, and clean steel rims, I will toss in the odd bucket of wire insulation from stripping wire. I will also pour the used oil from my truck or doing oil changes for others in with the oil of a scrapper.

I have known of people filling gas tanks with water or hosing down cloth seats but I won't do that since I like being able to go to the yard I go to and don't feel like getting banned, now if the windows are down and it happens to rain thats different

thanks for the correction... long day... " in with the oil of a scrapper. " meaning pouring my old used oil/coolant in with the oil of a scrap car

When I was doing cars I would throw in my fasteners (nails, screws, nuts and bolts) computer tower cases and steel shelving along with just about any other steel I had laying around.
