What is the weirdest thing you have ever seen in a scrap yard that doesn't belong, or any items you know don't belong and someone just threw it in the yard because of the weight of the item? I am only talking about shred/sheet iron/appliance piles.
I probably should have posted what I have seen:
TV tubes, Vacuums, Wood, Plastic :( and my least favorite Circuit Boards ;(
By chance does anyone pull boards out of any of their local yards? I do if I reach a circuit board, lol

Today I saw a two foot high rubber T Rex in the shred pile. A yard guy rescued it and took it home for his dogs to play with.
Yes, I pull boards all the time. I have a tote at my local yard and toss circuit boards in it. The yard employees will do the same with boards and hard drives. When it gets full, I'll go by and settle up with the owner. It works great.
I pick up circuit boards once in awhile that are just lying around. Usually have been run over a couple times. One time, there was a pile of motherboards/finger boards next to the fence. The yard doesn't buy them, so I guess they just got chucked to the side when someone was loading a bin.
70s vintage Yamaha/honda dirt bikes that were restored.
I found a hand of playing cards in a small floppy drive. Weird, they were Japanese cards & had two amusing depictions of the 'Joker' in Japanese caracature.
sorta like when I found a Japanese parking coin stuck in the passenger seat slide of my Japanese import Mazda 626.
I must have been there ten years & I found it when a Japanese exchange student was sitting in the rear seat. Nearly p-----ed ourselves larfin.

I once saw a full 12 pack of cans, sitting next to the shred pile. That was one of the saddest days for me at the yard :(. An I did ask, turns out it was skunky beer. Someone didn't understand that..making your beer cold, then warm, etc isn't the wisest choice.

I went into my yard one day to take a load in and off to the side was 10-15 sets of golf clubs. Including higher name brands. I seen at least one set of Pings in there. If I would have had the cash, I would have picked them up and sold them on CL for a good profit. I asked the guy at the yard about them and he said that some guys wife came in with them and dumped them there stating that her husband had too many sets of clubs. Bet that guy was pissed when he got home and see all his clubs gone at @150 a ton....when they could have went for almost that a set. LOL
1977 Webco and a 1978 JMC bmx bikes, didn't get to them in time and they were ran over by our excavator. Also 1983 KOS Cruiser 26 mint frame I got that one though, bought it from the guy before he threw it off
Strangest thing I've seen is, well you ain't gonna believe me, but, one time I saw an employee smile.

DEA drug search. The rural yard borders up to state hunting land. one of the neighbors decided to to do a little growing of their own. Unloading scrap while low flying helicopters doing there search and guys on foot going thru the woods. Put a little excitement for the day in the scrap run.
Har...smile? That's about as rare as a snowball in Florida in yards I've been at!!
The funniest thing I saw at a yard was where the city police must have dumped off a bunch of drug equipment that was seized and eventually trashed. I don't know how the yard guys communicated but I'll betcha every employee in the place beat a straight line to the dumping spot. Can you say seething dogpile?

An armored car that the city SWAT team used for training. It was at the yard with a gazillion bullet holes in it.
I don't know if this will get deleted, and I'm not sure if you'd call it strange, but the SWT at the yard had one button too many open.
Talked to her for a while that day.

A few months ago, I was unloading some rotors at the cast iron pile and was sickened to see a very ornate 1880s-90s Victorian parlor stove busted to pieces v:) That thing would have looked great in the entry foyer/parlor of my Victorian house, and I would have happily paid MUCH more than scrap for it! There are some things that just shouldn't be scrapped, and this was one of them.

Well almost good as new electronics and laptops. Seriously who does throw them away? Its better to give it to a recycling company atleast they can get some cash in its return and there parts will be re-used.
New one for me today. A guy cranked up this steamroller and rolled it off a trailer. Sold it for shred price. Yard boss drove it off into the back lot, waving like a beauty contest queen in a parade.

I can't remember what they are called, I'll describe it to the best of my ability. Maybe someone can give me an "Assist" for extra credit. I saw this just recently and was glad it was being scrapped. When I was a kid (many moons ago), you would get on this thing and other kids would push it as fast possible. It's round like a saucer, about 10 or 12 feet in diameter with axial in center. You would get really dizzy and try to walk without falling down (impossible). I wasn't a big fan of this play ground accessory (lost my groceries once) and did a double take seeing it at the scrap yard (a thumbs up to myself). A nice hunk of steel for who ever brought it in, these things have to weigh 400 or 500 pounds easy. I hated it so bad I can't remember what they are called. Help Mr. Wizard!

I saw someone toss a butt load of large electric motors into the heavy steel pile... I was baffled because at the time electric motors were .50 and heavy was.15!! Also more rerecently I saw brass figurines of animals humping... like pretty ornate figurines of bears and goats going at it... they sit on the cashiers desk
Last week was offloading non ferrous at the yard...
Middleaged man in business suit pulls on to weight bridge in a car and off again thought nothing of it , On my way round to the cashiers office saw him unload a microwave just the one. Too good to miss a waited awhile till he was reweighed and followed him in to the office.When the woman gave him his ticket to sign , with the grand total of £1.60 his face was a picture.......Off he went and as you do upto the window and the woman was crying with laughter .........I know this woman and so talked awhile only to find out that almost on a daily basis she has people in with things that at times weigh less than the 20Kg incriment on the scale , she has been told 'my friend said it would be at least £20' -- £1000 a ton for shred WOW.
