I came across a 1/2 full coffee can of mixed small type batteries. I know the Alkaline ones have no value other than shred. Some are Silver oxide and Lithium Manganese not sure if they have any value.

Silver oxide batteries are worth money, I don't think the others are.
ive been saving them in a coffee can, the motherboard buyers dont want those left on the board, it would be great if we had a buyer for them
I save mine also and when I open the container I get hit in the face with a whiff of toxicicity! I'm not sure what happens in there but dahym.
CORRECT! They do have value. (They can be worth about $50 a pound).
However, now is not the best time to sell. (Silver has recently dived in price [per ounce] from about 37? dollars an ounce, down to about 23 dollars an ounce.) So, I'd hold on to your silver--for now. I am sure, however that it won't be long until these prices REBOUND. But until that time, I'd keep hoarding them, for now.
Thanks for your time (and for your comment)!
are all MB batterys silver oxide ?s
If not how are they marked ?
Hey I get one dumb question for every 100 posts. besides that I'm old, respect your elders. :)
..... :) .....
I have been saving all kind of batteries, if best buy takes them so should you! When prices continue to go up, which they always will, you will be able to sell them. SO I say sit on them, not literally, unless your into that sort of thing, lol.
if only lithium batteries were worth as much as lithium ion
I was saving them from mother boards until my local buyer said I could leave them on the board. Most of them are Lith-ion but I don't know what the others are made of, there is no markings as to what they are made of. Sure would like to find a buyer for the Lith-ion ones at least.
It's only a matter of time. Originally when there were buyers for lithium ion laptop batteries, they did not want the same from a cell phone. Now there are buyers for those. At some point they will perfect the process of breaking these down and we will get a price for them.
Just my opinion.
We are still basically at the forefront of an industry that has a lot of change coming to it. It is still figuring out how to do stuff and do it cheaper.
If there's profit to be made then someone will find a way to do it better/faster/cheaper.Quote:

Any more luck with finding a buyer for these?
Alkaline - No buyer, add to steel
Silver Oxide - ?
Lithium Ion - Yes, buyers!
Lithium PILE - ? These are rechargable ones from cameras.
Lithium button Batteries - No? ?
NI MH - ?
NI Cad - ?
There is a buyer for the silver oxide on the buyer list here.
Ewasted is buying NiMH, but it was like 20 cents a pound, not worth shipping.
NiCd I found one person offering 3 cents, and stopped looking then. Not worth my time.
I've been making a killing on eBay lately on rechargeable batteries for cameras and phones. Lithium digital video batteries selling like hotcakes for $20 each, and weigh ounces.
A good list of types of batteries here... Battery Cell Types - Most Common Primary Battery Sizes Available
Who knew there were so many types.
Alkaline
Carbon zinc
Li Fe Sz
NiMH
NiCd
Lithium
Maganese
Lithium maganese
Carbon monofluoride lithium
Silver oxide
The silver oxide batteries do well with home refiners. They yield a nice amount of silver for their size. Most will want at least a pound of them if they are going to buy. If not maybe get in touch with Scott and see if he can do something with them.
AgO batteries have a marking in the 3** series 301-399 its on the battery hearing aide, watch, medical device, camera flash just for some ideas on where to look
I have a list of most manufactures and part numbers for these batteries.
I also will update my thread for prices on these too.
Eric
Looks like we have some more buyers since I firsted posted this!

Any of the small flashlight, etc. style batteries drop off at your nearest VA facility, my local hospital has a recycling box there sponsored by Rayovac I think.
Has anyone checked any of these operations out? Just Googled it and this is what came up.

I just skimmed thru the old posts since this thread popped up. ScrapYaHerd, if your batteries are all dumped in a coffee can, there's a very good chance many of them are short circuited. All it takes is two batteries or a battery and the side of your coffee can to create a circuit. And the current plus dissimilar metals could be causing some interesting chemistry experiment to occur inside the can.
Only a matter of time until there's a large enough supply and when it becomes cheaper to refine it than mine it.
Going to drop off at Lowe's 4.5 lbs Ni Cd, 2.5 lbs Ni Mh, 1/2 lb lithium button, 1/2 lb Lithium pile batts. Got too much stuff I am saving for when prices get better or when there is a buyer. Did not want to add these in with the shred, as not alakine and should be recycled!
I would like to learn more about silver oxide batteries. can anybody post pics. so I know what to look for and maybe some markings. I look at all my batteries because I can sell some of them but have never seen any that says silver oxide on them. Thanx for any help with this.
I have a list of them part numbers and makers PM me and I will send it to you. I also buy them.
Eric
I have reconsidered not posting this list. This is the direct link to my Google Drive for the PDF.

Hope this helps some people.
I just use it for my hat light...those things are like $5 for two. My hat takes 4 so I save $10. yay! lol
