These are some pic's I took of a satellite amp board I removed from it's housing(housing was cast). Don't know the name of the amp as the top had been removed before I got it. Well worth removing the 15 or so screws. On the first one all those little round dots you see are gold plated also.

And this side is almost totally plated. This board is 1 1/2" by 10".

How does a board like that get priced? There seems to be very little undesirables on that board and hardly any low value weight. It looks like about 70% of it is plated overall. What do you guys think?
That one went into my "special" box for all the unusual boards that have a lot of plating on them. When I get enough then someone is going to win them on Ebay. That looks to be my best bet, any thing else will probably be under priced.Quote:

That board came from hughesnet satellites the board in the LNB http://i50.tinypic.com/2dv09op.jpg. That is some thick RF shielding I did one only once and the Au plating came off in a single sheet of gold. That plating thickness should be around 105 Sq inches per gram of gold

Yep, that's exactly what the cover looked like.
Etack, look at the small board next to the ram on the right and let me know what you think is the plating on that board.
I have taken a few of the LNB's apart and this is the only one (so far) that has that silver (or platinum) color. Thanks,,,

Did you ever end up selling this board? I came across two of them about a month ago.

Check out the others posts on LNB's Lousy, before ya go yanking down your dish. lol.
They are light, but a fun find when you yank them suckers out. I know Mech, myself, an Trot have all posted on them in past. Not sure if Mech gets as many as me an Trot but, I think we can all agree it's good to have a direct tv, dish, or Hughes connection. I don't get many dish ones myself, but Directv ones can be gold plated, or silver. An according to Etack Hughes tend to be the best. I've never had one, but he's a source you can trust for info on them, same with Mech an Trot.
That said..I love them, an have been collecting them for awhile now. They've filled up most of my "OMG ITS GOLD™" bucket. ;)
Edit to add: Make sure you enjoy removing screws. There are a lot in them!

Yea I'm talkin with the lnb on it. I see somethin that coax attaches to and start thinking about how much I hate coax. Then I get all red in the face and bam shred pile. I'm trying to get into escrap though I need to start keeping a sharper eye on stuff like this
Don't worry about the coax. My method to deal with the coax nipples as I call them is take a hammer, an whack the hell out of it(it breaks off easy). You should find a gold wire(likely plated, dunno for sure yet..but it's gold!) when you do inside it. The rest is easy peasy. Use a flat head or something similar to get through the glue type stuff, a torx screw driver or phillips will get the panel off. I use a hammer an chisel to get into the panel an pry up enough to break the suction, an then pull it up with my fingers or a flat head. Once inside it's nothing but torx usually.

I searched lnb and found tons of info. Also a couple breakdown threads with pics so looks like u got beat to it. If I wasn't on a smartpadtouchphonecyborg hootenanny i'd take a crack at posting the links. Yet technology often evades the grasp of my tiny brain. Bam shredpile. Edit: everything on the screens so small I can't locate a thanks button. So thanks to everyone on this and all the other lnb threads!

now that I think about it, I just tore apart two smaller versions of these from direct tv... I'll have to snap the housing off of them though. I'll post pics next time I'm in the garage.

Mech do you find the gold wire's in the coax nipples to? Usually under the sheathing when you break off the coax part.
