Yes NOW is the time to restrategize. scrap metal is a commodity whether you choose to believe it or not so as the prices go down people reevaluate it"s worth.

That my friends is a good and bad thing. It is bad because deals made have less profit however for the right smartly aimed business plan it can be viable and essential for future success.

First thing its first Get out the make new contacts put cards everywhere pizzeria restaurants carwashes if they"ll say yes get out there.
2 Be more aggressive this may seems out of the ordinary but a slow market has the lazy drop out be there to pick up the pieces.
3rd Wow the with service there is no reason not to have a pushbroom and shop vac in your truck. clean up make a profession appearance it will last longer than you think.

down times mean more networking make friends 3 towns over pass a job or too to someone closer they will return the favor and you may get a finders fee in a down market this keeps everyone working.

lastly rethink your marketing and business plan set realistic goals and ad 10% to your budgets and savings to allow for a rainy day fund.

lastly eliminate waste leave unneeded tools at home don't spend 81 a day on lunch trust me in a bad market more waste = less profit

just have to sell more stuff instead of driving it over the scale as shred ---- used appliances stores take appliances working or not for parts ---- tools .... have value for ever .... bbq grills in so - so shape go on craigslist - .... the list goes on and on ....

this time last year i sat on a washer and dryer for 3 months...made almost 600, my problem is storage, but your right, ever car i scrap i keep a box of goodies i sell on kijiji. head / tail lights, alternator starter few things....sell the box for the price of one thing....the way i see it is anything is better then .08 cents a pound, and i feel like i hooked some one up with a good deal at the end of the day and more money in my wifes pocket lol

Not down time like that the time when metal prices are down be it may-june-sept etc

Scrap game while a gree selling is more viable than shred pile to a high voule operation it becomes a nuisance and hindrance to progress and profitablilty

i have adjusted my business plan and model to avoid just that holding 18 tons of brake rotors ties up buy $$$ waiting for a higher price so i skip 2 pickups a week save the fuel and make the same.

i scrap about 10-15tons a week so holding doesn't work well in my situation

Like the post. I would also add that it is always time to restragize.

Computer cases almost become a hinderance when doing escrap but I have a company that does not require me to strip the plastic and pays $10/100 So I just fill up the old long bed and take em in when its so full I can't stack it any higher

I totally agree, the empty cases take up too much room. I use the same method, hauled in 1000 lbs of them this morning.

Yeah I sell the same company my power supplies, aluminum, wire, motors etc So i try to make it worth my time driving by mixing in non ferrous

No I really don't have any way to crush em plus I think it would be a waste of time that I could be taking apart other escrap......

mike i don"T know the size of your operation but we crush and bundle everything to get maximumn weight per trip to the yard a peice of plywood ramps and a carefully placed longbed can yeild quite a bit of crushing power

one man one truck but i do quite a bit of ewaste

just a thought crushed you may get 3x more a truckload

Strategies don't work out for me - I have a tendency to forget them half way through and start over. I guess that's not a super bad thing though right? Unless you're trying to keep up with my madness

I don't have an official business to speak of yet - I'm working with a guess & check method that has a short attention span lol
