I know many of us on here don't scrap full time. Just curious what you guys do for work when you aren't out scrapping!
I'm an administrative assistant to the owner of a movie theater and property management company. I'm also the webmaster of the two company websites. I also make wire wrap jewelry which is sort of a hobby that pays on occasion.
How about you guys?
Lube tech/tire tech, work 5 1/2 days a week doing that and 7 days a week during harvest.
Well, my name on here is pretty literal. I am a peanut farmer and also plant cotton, oats, wheat, corn and sesame seeds. I'm also a demolition contractor currently without any demo projects. That was a big part of my scrap supply, but since the local economy slowed, I don't get that many jobs. I quit going out on the road a few years back and had dropped licenses in other states except Florida. Hopefully, I can make a comeback in that job, but farming's doing pretty good right now so all is well.
I see the farmers doing better up here in the past few years. A lot of land that was allowed to go back to bush is being reclaimed for agricultural use. I think demand for corn (ethanol) is driving this.Quote:

Myself, I'm a flooring contractor/retailer.
Currently I am the Night Manager at a supermarket/drugstore. Make sure to tell co-workers you scrap, cause you can score alot of scrap / appliances from them. ;)
I'm a machinist at a big factory. Everybody knows I scrap. Get's me lots of stuff. My wife is a real estate broker. Get's me ton's of stuff. I get to keep the scrap money though.:D
I am an Agronomist.
Full time mechanic/shop forman/shop IT guy/whatever else the boss lady asks of me.
Full time student I do all of my scrapping at night and on the weekends.

Yes, grow more peanuts! I go through a jar of peanut butter a week, and eat peanuts all the time. I guess that's my day job.
I'm a full-time computer programmer, and I do software contracting on the side.
I am a full time warehouse tech for a multistate home medical equipment company
I am a manager at a sporting goods store (run the hunting and fishing department). As you all can imagine it's been just a little busy on the firearm side of things.
I work construction, building bridges full time. And play music and scrap part time.
I work for boilermakers local 83 out of kansas city. Mechanic, welder, rigger. We build and preform maintenance on powerplants of all types, refineries, paper mills, ships and tanks/vessels. In my free time i do mechanic work, internet sales and scrapping specializing in escrap.
Tractor Trailer Driver for a moving company. I also own a junk removal company.
I am currently a demolition / all around construction person, but used to work in a steel mill running all the heavy equipment.
I was a factory worker, then I got my CDL and moved modular homes for 6 months before finally saying no more to my boss when I wasn't being paid correctly. Then I had a temp job until the place closed down and now I'm unemployed.
Don't know if I'll go back too driving, I loved the big trucks and getting to see the country and Canada but its lonely on the road.

not liking to break my concentration, I stick to strictly part time, working only half days. and the best part, is that I can chose which half I work! I can work either the first 12 hours, or the next ; )
People pay me to take piles of stuff and turn them into houses or cars, other people pay me to turn houses and cars into piles or stuff. I buy , sell and scrap what is left over. The pay is mediocre but it keeps my cost of living VERY low.

Depends on the time of the year. Year round I do scrap and buy/sell stuff I get from CL and auctions.

Warehouse guy, but mainly i get paid to wish I were scrapping right now...;)

Bus driver for an assisted living/nursing facility. Great job, but crappy pay. Full time 30. Which is perfect for me. I get insurance and can pay the mortgage and the rest of the time is mine to scrap. Sometimes the 2 blend together as I have been able to meet up with lots of contacts while on the job.
So do you ever look at your work and say to yourself, "ya know, this sucker would look awesome in black with some nice candy apple red flames. Or maybe a nice cobalt blue with white racing stripes. Enough of the flat gray already!"?Quote:
