What goes hand and hand with Scrap Metal?Junk,We post ads on Craig's list and a bunch of other info local menu's, offering a combination of Trash/Scrap Metal Removal.
Most people will consider there old washers,dryers,and unwanted electronic appliances unwanted junk,offering the combo of Trash/Junk/Scrap Metal Removal opens up good opportunities So many times after getting to the house people will be happy to learn that you will take that set of aluminum rims there son has left in the garage for years,or that stack of Hurricane shutters that's been taking up space for to long,The worst is that they pay you to remove just trash, so find out what the local trash/recycling rates will cost you to dump and figure in your labor,and other expenses when giving a removal price,we had to get a city license for trash hauling $35.00 Its not the worst thing getting paid to remove it and to recycle it.

Personally I don't want to deal with people's trash....even if they pay me.

That's a fine line between scrap and trash, but I get what you mean - some trash haul outs could be pretty gross. I suppose it would be a bit like changing diapers - eventually, you would get used to it.

It's "hand in hand". This is a very old saying. Which means if you used this wrong, and you've been in scrap "for a long time", what else are you doing wrong?

I merely point this out after being told I don't know what I'm doing because you've been doing this forever.

Ok, I guess I took for granted that you scrappers would know there are different kinds of trash go figure,Just try to use your imagination,getting paid a couple of hundred dollars or more to remove there junk, or paying a couple of hundred or more," there junk that includes electronic junk appliances"what makes the better business decision???

Make sure you are licensed and insured before you go and do junk removal. I don't care if its cleanouts, shoveling snow, removing scrap, or washing windows. Some of you are going to have to learn the hard way...

Ill quickly tell you a story of a friend having some work done on his home. He hired a company to remodel his kitchen. Unknown to them, the company used an unlicensed subcontractor who flicked a cigarette outside into some dry mulch along the house, catching the house on fire. They are now have an insurance claim against the contractor- who in turn will sue the uninsured sub. I don't know legally what he can be liable for. But i'm glad i'm not in his shoes. You never know whats going to happen until you loose it all, running a "business" foolishly.

Russell is 100% right. You sould also be incorperated or have a LLC. This protects all your personal property, if your not set up right you can loose everything. A LLC or Corp. they can only sue your business.

Anyone who puts dry mulch (or any other flammable material) alongside a house having a wood underpinning (or any other flammable material) needs their credentials (amongst other things ; ) checked, and most likely, revoked

??? I'm a little confused about your post Gangel. Could you clarify what your problem is?

I can vouch that there will be times when you do junk outs, or trash removal jobs, and you will honestly thing your at the county landfill.

However, you are getting PAID to remove it! Surely you can look past the mess and see the $$$.

I will say this. I make more money doing junk removal jobs, then I do scrapping any kind of metal, with the prices the way they are right now.

I get a lot of stuff that is donate able, and the rest, is for the landfill that recycles it their own way, thanks to new and improved EPA standards.

Some of you might turn your noses at it now, but I guarantee you, that if you get a request for it, you will do it. Who in their right mind would turn down legitimate money, after all?

Good for your George, I'll glad your making bank. Lots of different types of scappers here, and we all have our place in the big picture. I'm not a regular of dumpsters or curbco, but would stop for sure to pickup a window ac if I ran accross it. Nothing wrong with making an honest buck, even if its something other people wouldn't prefer to do.

Didn't mean to come off like a scrap snob...I will do whatever it takes to provide for my family and as my kids grew up I put in way too many long days to make sure my wife could stay at home till all the kids were in school. We continued to make sure they had what they needed without spoiling them and provided them with opportunities to compete in sports at the national level.

I feel fortunate to be able to do what I want now and had a lot off folks shaking their heads when I closed up a successful contracting business to be a scrapper. Last week it was rat crap this week who knows...will work for metal but no I don't want your clothes and broken down furniture, and boxes of books.

Well today we did a Trash/Junk pick up It happened to be a farmers market,We took down two screen houses.they were framed out of wood,I ordered a thirty yard dumpster,cost $375.00 four labors plus my self, in addition to the trash/Wood we got four large pump motors,two large freezer's about 1500 running feet of 1/4 inch pipe,three large brass fittings and also a 8x10 foot trailer that they forgot was in the corner.My labor was Three Hundred Fifty five dollars, pizza was thirty dollars lunch.
We were done at 3:30,charged customer 1,500.00 for job if my math is right made 740.00 after expenses Oh plus the metal and trailer,the trash smelled pretty good today
How many computers to you have to scrap to make that??????I will update you on the scrap money,when i can get it to the scrap yard.I am not trying to be a smart asssssssss,just showing different way's that you could do to make a living,

Good job 1956, all kinds of ways to make money and you found one that worked out good for you, congrats. By the way KZ those clothes and books are worth money, I would take them all day long if I could find enough of them.

I have done both.......I used to make a lot of money hauling trash but I moved to a different location and couldn't find work so I took the money I had made hauling trash and started buying e-waste.........Go figure

I get what your saying happscraper, but my point is that it's not always about the money for me...it's more about doing what captures my interest. I do resell things from a vast inventory when I have time but most of it is stuff that interests me so I get a kick out of selling it.

I agree, and like anyone, just stating what works for me in my area. At first, I didn't like the idea myself, but when I saw how much money was involved, it was a no brainer.

I give you props for ordering the dumpster. I always leave that to my clients. Mainly, because the dumpster companies I have found, charge you a fee for the size of the dumpster, to a certain limit in lbs. So, I leave that to the customer, so regardless of the size they ordered, they know exactly what they are paying for, and can't come to back to me after all is said and done, and try to want to make a deal with me for half, or whatever else.

In South florida you can pay two way;s 1 by cubic yard or 2 by the weight,thats if you bring the trash to the transfur station with your own truck or trailer, my trailers I have three but no dump so the roll off for this job was the best way for me to do the job,up date of metal's sold, add another $186.00 from the metals trashed, I love Trash/Scrap/Junk Outs Looking for the next one.

Yeah, I was told by all that it is a flate rate depending on the size, BUT if they notice that your bringing in smaller loads then they will re adjust, but instead of dealing with all of that, I just let the clients.

When you got a good thing going, like you do, you keep it up.

Quick note sold the trailer for $350.00 CA CHINGGGGGGGG.
