How did I do on computer purchase?

So I got a call from my CL ad that I purchase computers. Went to see client and she had 45 towers, 10 laptops, 25 monitors, and boxes of keyboards, mice, and boards. Paid $5 per tower, $1 per laptop, total of $235.00. Took the monitors as a courtesy.

Some of the towers had missing items, but more than made up for by the boxes of power supplies, motherboards, and other items.

I see some 5.5" floppy drives. If some of those towers are from that same era, you did pretty well!!!!!

EDIT: and check the keyboards for the old clicky key type before you cut the cords. They can fetch a pretty penny from vintage collectors I hear. Yeah... in fact, I'd cross reference everything's part #s and model #s on ebay & vintage computer forums before I took a screwdriver or anything to any of that stuff.

Sorry had to wipe the drool from my ipad....yes you did very well...lots of vintage stuff...love it when i get the white towers...lots of nice processors and high grade boards in them.

Hm. So YAY! and OH CRAP! at the same time! Computers are not my thing knowledge-wise. I just wanted to dismantle and scrap for some quick cash. Sounds like I'm losing a lot of money if I do that?

So I need to figure out what everything is, determine it's working condition, determine it's value, and list it?

AND I have to spend time on evilbay? :-)

I guess these are good problems to have.

i don"T know much about escrap but if i had a load like that i"Ld say you"ll quadruple your investment

look at the PS2 connectors, if there's 2, it's not quite vintage. If there's none, check it on out a little bit

It only takes a few mins to check them out on ebay. Your failure to do so would cost you quite a bit. A monitor and keyboard, is really all your going to need. Hook them up and just go into the bios, it should tell you everything you need to know initially. Once you know if it's worth selling, you can test it further.

You can spend an hour or two looking them up, then scrap the rest out. You should be able to do it in a day so it's not going to tie up your money. I'd bet you can get your money back off 4-5 computers on ebay pretty easy.

John, if you need any help, let me know. I have some experience with vintage stuff, as well as lots of the cords/adapters and all kinds of crap laying around.

vintage means better odds of gold caps, also theres 5" floppies and motherboards in boxes, you will do very well on it

I don't see the laptops, what brand/model did you get?

Great Deal, Great Price, Great score. You will do very well even at just scrap price, but as others have already said there lots of potential with parting out vintage parts on a secondary market.

I would have taken that load without a second thought

the laptops are wroth .80-1.10 lb as scrap, but could have resale value even as non working

$5 a toweris basically an industry standard, you should average over $10 each in scrap if there are no resale parts

how much time did this take total?

if you see din 5 connectors on the motherboards then you know you have somthing

The cpu's that are horizontally oriented are likely older than the towers. So you may want to pay more attention to them first.
