Hi folks. I picked up a few towers the other day and these are some of the "newest" ones I have gotten as of yet. I was wondering if I should just tear then down for scrap or is there anything re-usable here? I dont even know if they work or not. Thanks folks!

Find a way to test them. If they work, they could easily sell for $50+

I see hundreds of adds on crags list for core 2's for 50-150 bucks. Most don't sell. If you put a P4 against them they will do even worse.
If you want a machine for some on in your family to surf the web or a machine for a kid to mess with let em at it. Other than that, bust out the hammer and get scrappin.
Sell them. They have a p4 with hyperthreading. (see the "ht" on the sticker) Windows see it as a dual core. I sell them all the time from $15-100 you just have to find the market to sell them in.
I'm certainly not knocking the P4, it's definitely adequate for anyone not totally gaming oriented, but am offering some info on the hyperthread processors. Hyperthreading was developed as dual cores were, possibly just a little bit before. As are many computer related items, it fell to the wayside as a better option(dual core) emerged. It was a transitional piece, as I call them(along with PCI-X vs PCI Express etc), and even though it does show in windows as two processors, and even tho it is superior to a single core, it is still only capable of processing single threads (it just does so more efficiently than the plain single cores did)
I'm not as "up" on the newer stuff as I once was, but still believe separate CPUs will out manuever a dual core, as would quad CPUs vs a single quad core CPU. In the case of multiple CPUs, the primary CPUs function will default to running the operating system, and additional CPUs will be free to address other applications
I really do not like selling thing so I scrap them. Look at the harddrives some of them have some larger one in them.
Yes you can sell them but like other said P4 are slow and outdated.
My grandkids all love me though. Everytime I get a working laptop I give it to them. They do not really care how slow they are.
"Testing" a computer is so very simple, basically all it takes is a monitor, keyboard, and mouse(in a very minimal space). Plug it up, turn it on, that's it! Of course there are lots of more extensive ways to "test" one, but if it turns on, boots up, and is receptive to applications etc, there's probably not a whole lot wrong with it. Learn how to find the recovery partition if it has one, and do a complete recovery, that will remove everything it had, including personal information and even viruses, basically restoring it to "from factory".
If I can find one that is up and running, ill set it up for the kids. The rest will be torn apart this weekend.
It's true what they're saying about outdated, fact is, most become outdated while they're still sitting on the store shelves. I recall a TV commercial nearly ten years ago, this fella was all smiles, headed across town in his new convertible, passing these guys putting up a new billboard of a new computer. Billboard read something about a "NEW 5.0!" He gets his "new 5.0" loaded in the car, and driving back across town, still all smiles, arm over the boxes in the seat beside him, he passes the billboard again, as they're rolling a 6.0 over the "old" 5.0 (there went his smile) haha! That's still true today, if not even more so.
Point is, if someone is heavy into gaming or high draw applications, he doesn't want a used computer, or even one off of the store shelves. He needs to obtain the newest components and build(or have built) his own. And THEN be ready to stop for upgrades on his way home, only to get it online and be blown away by someone else with a "newer, faster" machine. Rather futile I'd say.

If their usable you might be able to do some "horsetrading" for computer scrap from a computer repair shop. Their always looking for cheap used ones to put out on the shelves for sale. If you could trade for $ 20.-25. worth of escrap for each working one that would be a win-win.
I didnt say who they would sell to, I just said they would sell. There is tons of people who just want a simple PC for internet surfing and checking emails. If you can make even $50 or even $30, that it still better than scrap.Quote:

Hyperthreading does allow for multiple threads. It allows the os to create two virtual cores allowing multiple threads on one core. Although it doesn't brake up the main executions of the architecture. It increase the ability to run parallel computations minimizing the number of instructions on one pipeline. It does allow windows and applications to run just as if it was a dual core. P4 computers will not run games. Just remember ram sticks 1gb and larger and hard drives over 40gb can bring over scrap value.

Today i sold 4 non ht p4 for $35 i have a guy coming tomorrow morning buying 2. And Monday i have a guy buying 100 without the hard drives.
Whowee! Looks like a nice bag of oldies right there. A nice hunk of goodies inside some of those, if you don't sell them whole eh. :) lb
