I think alot of scrappers know about the e waste scrap...

i pulled up to the yard on monday to get rid of my 20 scrap computer cases, HD cases. and when i walk out my truck to unload someone spotted all the pc. and didn't even get to my tailgate and someone already asking me if they can have all my ewaste i had they asked me about the 16 pounds of hard drives telling me i cant scrap those if i had the boards but the boards are long gone and told them i sold all of it, just wasting my time and trying to scare me out of my scrap. anit the first time this happen some guy on craigslist threaten me with some bogus make believe laws and just wanted to steal my scrap and i just canceled the deal and he was just acting like an a** the hole time he was there. But i guess its every man for them self...dont get screwed over.

Every man for him/her self in this industry !

I was at the scrap yard one day and the guy next to me was unloading his truck and he had 2 low grade boards from a tv so I asked him what he was going to do with them he told me to make an offer on the and I said I will give you .50. He said h@#l no there worth 10.00. I said good luck getting that.LOL

I just picked up 21 computers at an auction. None had hard drives, one was a completely empty shell, and in 4 of them whoever pulled the hard drives not only pulled the memory sticks but also pulled the CPUs. The only good news on the last 4 is they didn't know what they were doing scrap wise and dumped the heat sinks back in the computer, one of which was a half pound of 100% copper.

Never thought to check for missing CPUs before.

if you can get a glance at the back of them, that'll tell you half of what you need to know. If the Mobo is missing, you'll note that instantly, and if there's empty slots where cards have been removed, that'll tell you more

I've had a few now that someone pulls the CPU chip then snaps the heatsink back on, at first glance it looks complete.

lol, how on earth could ewaste be the next catalytic converter?
I'm assuming you mean it's value, well, i'm still perplexed as to why anyone would buy a pc to scrap.
someone mentioned .50c for a low grade tv board? is this serious or do I need to pay membership
to read the real stuff?

australia couldn't be any different to america, infact we probably pay most for electrical goods at retail level,
there is so much ewaste available it's not funny.
I bypassed at least 50 tv's today driving by houses that are doing hard rubbish.
if I wanted too I could fill a 5 acre block with tv's stacked 4 high.
the only ones i'm grabbing are the flat screen plasmas & lcd's now as I can slide 6 flat into my hatch without a problem.
i've been scrapping for just a month but surely ewaste is just as common everywhere?

I do like my tv yolks so whilst i'm out i'll spend some time scrapping a few tv's in the street, only takes a few minutes to
undo the back screws, cut out the board, undo the yolk and pull up the degaussing cable and close it back up.
this now saves me having to deal with tv crt's, I have lots more space in the car that allows me to stay out longer picking up exactly what I want, which is small items like phones, vacc's, laptops, keyboards, towers, wire ect.

If you do have hard rubbish then surely all you would need to do is track the districts that are doing it?
I just go to their websites, there's a hard rubbish collection going somewhere almost all the time.
infact i'm looking fwd to when there ain't any going so I can spend more time scrapping.
now australia is almost as big as america is, yet we have 22 million people, you's have what 350 million?
surely there must be an absolute **** load of ewaste?

I don't know, maybe I haven't been into it long enough to experience lean times, but just on the principle of it,
I wouldn't pay for someone's junk no matter how desperate I was, the money comes from doing the work to scrap it,
not to just take possession of it from who would otherwise throw it in the trash.

Scrapperben, I cant speak of Australia in terms of scrap or Ewaste. I can only speak in relation to its worth here in the U.S.A. It's true! 100% true. Why else would every other thread on this forum be about E Scrap? I can tell you this from personal experience. An everyday scrapped computer could be worth anywhere from $10 usd to $14usd. And again, i said "everyday computer". There are times i come across older ones where the mother board alone is worth $12 and the CPU is worth another $15 and if its even fatter you can add on the RAM and peripheral boards, the aluminum or copper heat sinks, the power supplies and CD drives. Oh and if the computer is worth being refurbished, you have computer guys buying them up for $20 on average. Ive had some sell for $40 to $60. Escrap is real and it can be profitable. I wouldnt hesitate to to buy a bundle of towers if i could get them for the right price. Alot of folks on this forum agree $4 to $5 for an abundance would be worth paying for. Id trade a 5 dollar bill for a 10 dollar bill anyday.

Crazy, I think the main problem their having "over there" is not enough good Ewaste buyers to make it profitable for them, without them having to drive long distance.

^which is why someone with the space, capital, and time should change that.

Well it sounds like to me one of us needs to go to Australia and set up shop. If we have buyers here shipping 9000 miles to china, someone could do the same thing there but only needing to ship 5600 miles. But then again, who knows, their laws and regulations. But of course, if it was that easy, someone would already be doing it. I could see myself in Australia on vacation. Id come home divorced cause id end up spending all my time scrapping E waste, filling my luggage and pockets with processors and cut gold fingers.

I don't know that any of our buyers ship to China, I personally have used 3 different ones and that's one question that was asked of them all. And unless they were lying to me the unanimous answer was no. (Unless of course they were lying, but how would I know) You just hope they have enough integrity to not lie to you.

Touchy touchy subject I would suppose. Not even going to go there. But I so want to. I'd rather not upset anyone, I like is forum too much to risk getting booted. Regardless where one ships..... I would think someone could figure it out to make it work out in Australia.

There are 10 ads running full time on Craig's List where I live. They all want the dead computers for free, the only way I could get into the market (I am very new at this), was to offer to pay, I only pay $1.00 for a dead PCs and .10 for phones, and nothing for printers, Crts etc... I get calls every day, some for as many as 20 PCs at a time, I hold the CPUs and phone boards and I sell the rest at our local salvage yard. I strip the heat sinks and power supplies , and I am considering stripping the hard drives. Even without stripping the hard drives I still average 8.00 per computer. I don't mind the dollar investment and it waste only way I was able to break into the business at this time. Wish I had a local place to buy my plastic cases also :( I am still trying to figure out how they are grading my copper though?

I save the CUPs, ram and cell boards, because I am going to mine the pure gold from them, this'll increase my profit tremendously ;)

No it won't unless your a professional, if your a hobbyist doing the refining then you will probably lose 50% of what your trying to reclaim. That's why we sell to the buyers on the forum here and let the pro's do the reclaiming, and thru total breakdown we can get 12-15 out of each computer not counting if some parts are sold not scrapped. We pay up to $5 each and still make a good profit. Take your time and do a lot of reading to start getting your maximum profit out, just like printer boards.
If you don't set everything up properly trying to refine the gold, you run the risk of hurting or possibly killing yourself; definitely not worth a gram or so of gold.

My Dad is s licensed chemist, and has worked in mines and tunnels More then half of his life , and water treatment and for Slumberger as in their batch plant, when my mother passed away, I am trying to find ways to keep dad occupied. Lucky for me he is More then qualified.
