I don't know what it's like by you but I only saw two regulars out last nite curb shopping. I am going to expand the areas I normally cruise on garbage nights. There's money on the streets more than ever. Also concentrating efforts on ewaste. got six full towers, 2 server towers and two boxes full of finger cards, mobos, laptops, power cords, fire wire, ram and 4-5 unopened heat sinks for gaming computers for $ 100. So I agree I will be reselling a bit more too.
I agree, Mike! I tend to look at the whole picture and not just one little part of it. I have been sitting all the random stuff that has come in to the side for a long time, just for the lean days. ie, out of a few hundred keyboards, there are 12 "clicky" keyboards that will help pick up the slack. NIB tape cartridges that are going for 50+ on ebay. etc etc...There are plenty of things that come our way, that if we slow down and take the time to research, do not take up a lot of room for the amount of $$$ that they will yield. If folks want to turn it and burn it, maybe a job at Mc-E-Deez is the way for them to go ;-) For me, I like what I am doing, and as long as the bills are paid and the kids are OK, so am I!! my 2, BroJer
Ive taken to just holding on to everything till i run out of capital. then turning in the light steel to recoop it. rest is getting hoarded away. More trying just to save my HMS just cause its heavy as snot and i can cut it up and store easly. Just wish my car was working cause i got a crap ton of ewaste to go out and collect. Pretty bad when i had to turn down 3 jobs cause of my car out of service.
Yeah I have been really getting into Ebay because I do specialize in vintage electronics and odd ball stuff......I however am making most of my money off ewaste currently so the fall in metal is really not hurtin me right this second.........I don't whine I just improvise and look at this as an opportunity to work on my re-sell biz
Gas prices have been dropping pretty fast here too. Down to $3.55 today. Definitely makes cruising for scrap more affordable.
Just got back from Colorado. Gas was around 3.38 in Wyoming. Still getting hosed in Idaho.
Wished I could of visited a few yards/members in the Denver area, but unfortunately there wasn't time.
Gas here is only 3.17 today :)
Gas up here in WA state is 4.19 as of yesterday. Fiiled up in OR yesterday on my way up and it was 4.15.
Back on topic, I've been cashing in my scale tickets weekly for a number of years and even with the downturn in prices the prices are far better than a few years ago. 8 years ago I would have killed to get the prices I'm getting right now!
Gas is down to 3.10 in my area of SC (near the NC/SC state line, just south of Charlotte). Went and got my hair cut yesterday, and the girl that did it is from Greenville, SC - she said it's down to 2.90 and lower in that area. I'm also beginning to hoard any unsalvageable A/C unit coils, copper, etc. Anything else is going on CL to attempt to resell.
I deal mainly in E-waste, however I think that the falling commodities prices will play well into our hands if we play the cards right. I am going to drop the price I pay for towers to $3.00 from $5.00. I am also looking at starting to do some trash runs because I think that alot of the recent scrappers will quit because of the lowering of prices. I am giong to stockpile my insulated wire, and may look into buying one of the cordless drill Ebay wire stripper setups and see if I can do more stripping of the insulated and turn it into #2. My only problem is that my full-time job is interfering with me making more money in e-waste....It is kinda getting on my nerves!!!
Chris
p.s. I paid $3.09/gallon for unleaded here in N. Alabama Yesterday.
3.42 here today Maine is always higher !! I just turn in what I got due to space , I do strip all my wire though!
I'm @ $3.35 a gallon in NJ.
$3.69 on long island. If I use my stop n shop points at a shell station I can get .77 off per gallon. Saving that one for the auction pick ups that are 50 plus mile one way.
Or the curb shoppers will just start stealing cans from the recycling bins. I saw two of doing that this morning. Or they will start stealing bikes like they did to my neighbor. I see more of them with down prices , they have to cover more area.
clicky keyboards are the old keyboards (and some newer ones) that are mechanical. They will have a distinct sound and feel when using one over the other keyboards. There are a lot of people that would rather type on one of those than the newer models so they pay more for them and some people I know horde the working ones.
Actually I believe the old IBM brand are the most valuable and sought after, I've seen prices or comments from people who paid in the several hundred dollars range, by people who collect old computers, and by some who simply enjoy the nostalgic sound they make
They are usually the IBM Model M keyboards from the early 1980's. They are from the original IBM PC's or old terminal systems. People love the tactile feel of these keyboards. They click when you press down and can handle high speed typers better than the cheapo plastic quiet flimsy keyboards today. It's a cult following of pc enthusiasts, but a lot of new introductees that use one usually love it (or hate it) right from the start. Here's a link to ebay list of Model M's being sold and at what prices. They will usually sell between $25-$200 each!

I've probably thrown some of those away before realizing they were any good for anything, especially the narrow ones
Grr, supposed to be getting my truck tonight, and of course prices bottom. Oh well I do not intend on stopping, or stockpiling. Sad part is I basically have been stockpiling, and I'm running outta room. But everything I get is free so either way it's profit.
Oh, and gas was average 3.65 today, 3.66 at my work and 3.64 at the gas station/liquor store down the street
Smart scrappers, now is the time to expand and horde, you will be very happy later!!
