how do i approach this and what can i expect ?

my yards paying 22/lb for lead acid batteries but i was thinking i would save up some batteries and bring it to them and see if theyll gimme a better price. im looking to fill up my e250 top to bottom front to back so say about 150 batteries? so between 2000 and 2500 pounds ? now how would i go about asking them for a better price do i ask then show them the load ? or show them the load first? i know it depends person to person but has anyone ever done this before with copper or some other higher paying metal ? and if this works whats a reasonable price i should ask i was gonna ask 30/lb?

Yes, with batteries and copper. Call them and tell the what you've got. Ask what they'll give you for the load.

Gameday where are you located, here in florida I get .32 per lbs. Mick is right, most yards will give a higher rate if you have several thousand lbs. but you have to aske.

But, 150 batteries is going to be way more than a ton. If they are car/truck batts you can expect about 4500 - 5500 lbs. Your van will get "squirrelly". I realize you don't have them yet, but that's a lot of batteries. I had 55 in a f150 once, in the winter, and I didn't have any stearing. That was right around a ton.

batteries are one of the items that flucuate wildly. here they go from $5 to $11 almost by monthly. we have several battery rebuilding companys in the area.

yeah im definitly gonna ask, dex im almost there and i hope my truck can handle it ive had 2 tons in it before and it help up fine and yeah old dude i see that around here too but it only goes from 9 to 11 then back to 9 then back to 11 never settles at 10 or go below 9 or above 11

I sell a lot of batteries, 30,000 lbs last June. I have always had better luck dealing with someone who is a battery dealer of some kind, rather than a yard. Check with some of the local battery distributers in your area, and negotiate. You should be able to get a pretty good price with a load of that size. Lots of places around the country paying .35 to .40 right now. Hope this helps.

Look for an Exide buyer in the area. Otherwise call the Exide district manager for recycling.

im gonna do that first thing tuesday i think everythings gonna be closed for memorial day - rightfully so
