IRS screwed up again
Got a notice today that I had not paid my taxes due for 2011. I use an online tax service for preparation and the government Electronic Fund Transfer Payment Service which takes funds directly from my bank account and credits them to my IRS account. I have all the paperwork and confirmation of fund transfer. Got everything together and called the IRS rep. There are two problems:
Today the system is down. She suggests I call back tomorrow.
Electronic payments by EFTPS are "often credited to the wrong account".
Just thought I'd let others know - If you get a letter from the IRS, don't panic. Just make sure you save a printed copy of EVERYTHING.

The same incompetence that thinks they can rule our lives in every other aspect better than we can. O_o

When haven't they screwed up?

@MICK Be very carefull. Did you ring a number on the letter you received, or did you look the IRS number up yourself. At tax time Conmen send out letters like this, knowing that people are afraid of the IRS and hope they send payments on their fake website with a credit card, or send a check they can alter. Just make sure you are actually dealing with the IRS.
Years ago when people paid their tax by check. Many people put (IRS) in the pay to line. Conmen would change the I in IRS to a M making it MRS. They would then add last name... MRS Smith... and cash the checks. The victim then had to pay twice!!!

That happened to me once but with a credit, someone else got my overpayment. good thing the bank figured it out. Good luck mick, I hope you get it all resolved!

Good old govt for ya, and obama thinks we need more of it. More waste, more corruption, and more of your hard earned money flushed down the crapper, govt does nothing but get bigger bulky and more invasive while They tell you to buckle down and spend less.
