does any use a home made wire stripper or did you buy one?
I bought one on ebay for 89. I may not get my $$$ back right away but I consider it another tool that I own that will make my life easier. It makes it alot easier too. One slip with a razor blade and it would of paid for itself many times over.
I do not know who i got the idea from on here but i use a 2x4 with holes drilled in it for wire sizes, and screws screwed into the sides so the screw tip cuts the insulation. it works soso, but i will buy a good wire stripper eventually.
I made one of these last night to try it out. I only got to use it on some house wire (I dont know what its called, but its used for house wiring I think). The wire had a clear easily broken covering over the insulation & it kept breaking & jamming up inside the tunnel. I have yet to try it on wire that just has the regular insulation though.
I tried it again last night on some regular insulated wire (the kind without the clear, easily breakable coating over the insulation) and it worked surprisingly well. Just gotta get the depth of the screw exactly right.
edit: I just had an idea. If I took a really thin blade & cut a thin line down the block of wood to the hole..... I bet I could stick a boxcutter blade in there at just the right angle & then clamp the wood (in a vice or clamp).... it may hold the boxcutter blade in place good enough to cut the insulation once passed thru.
I use a drywall screw I have sharpened several tips on the screws kinda like a razor tip. It seems to make it a breez.Just have to look in the hole to make sure its pointed the right way.
