The mother load(s) --- how much?

Well I have found another auciton site to try out for scrap. This warehouse is located about an hour drive from me. They have a dozen 50-laptop lots and 4 of these huge desktop lots. Thing says 547 computers but the excel file attached has 647.

547 (apprx) Desktop computers shrink wrapped on pallets. Including but not limited to Dell, HP/Compaq, Gateway, Micron/MPC, and other. Units are tested to power up to the system BIOS and may not be otherwise complete. Hard Drives have been removed. A Mfg/Model listing spreadsheet is attached with test results and is provided as information only. Pictures are a representation of the lot. Buyer will have 10 business days for removal once invoice is paid. Mutilation is not required as condition of sale. (18) plts apprx.

31 w/ 246MB
290 w/ 512MB
3 w/ 768 MB
230 computers w/ 1GB sticks memory
4 with 1.5 GB memory (prob 3 512MB?)
61 with 2GB memory (prob 2 1GB sticks)
21 w/ 3GB
9 w/ 4GB

98% of the computers powers to bios but not "ON". Only a few powers on. 99% of them have CD or DVD/CDRW drives. Suspect the HDDs have been removed.

Other 3 lots have even more computers. One lot that "powers on" for all the computers.

I have 1k in cash (my storage auction money). Any more then that and I'd have to talk it over with my wife as I'd be dipping into our living/bill money. What do you guys think? If it's like my other sites I will quickly get outbid and this will go north of 5k quickly. I'm thinking a max of $3 per computer since have to include 10% BP and gas money. This is 18 to 20 pallets so will take multiple trips.

I'd be all over that for $1K. You should make that back in mobos alone.

I believe i know the website you are talking about. Good luck! I tried buying from them once but shipping the stuff would have killed me. Just dont forget you are going up against resellers who sell them for a lot more than scrap value.

Those computers on the gov. auctions go for way over scrap value, be very carfull bidding on them.

Ya - just checked the auctions. All 4 of them are at $1200+. If get my wife to agree I'll go up to $1500 bid on the 647 computers. At $3 per computer that is $1941. If subtract the $1500, 10% bp, and 7% tax I'll have about $175 margin for gas. Which I know it's going to take more then that. So now I'll be eating into my profit potential. I suspect these are going to hit $5k and up. 23 pallets on govdeals.com is sitting at a $6k bid. These are 19, 22, 21, 22 pallet size loads.

Well I was way off on my estimate of what the auction would go for. The 746 desktop computer lot sold for $35,001.00. 50 laptops sold for $2,292.00. That isn't including the tax/bp. Think I will just keep hitting up yardsales and other non-auction sites. Picked up a P4 desktop for $5 and a old laptop for $3 (has Windows ME on it).

Yeah, those auctions go for way more than scrap value. They sold for $47 ea. u would have to sell for over $100. Stick to what works for you.

Dont scrap those core 2 duo's you are mad if you do, lts just say they
would have a higher than scrap value price, either fix them up if you know
how to, or you could just sell the parts.
