mobile home

I had a guy offer me a double wide (24x52) to scrap. He would pay $1000 and i get all metal. I have a dumptruck, but no tractor. It has a shingle roof and vinyl siding. Landfill is about 25 miles one way. approx $150 dump fees. Brick underpinning, but brick can be left on site. No burning on site. I can do at my own pace. What would you do? Also, I have no torch.

Hello everbody new on here.I would rent a large dumpster for waste.And tow frame to the yard.Well that is my two cents worth.

I would rent a dumpster also and take one week to get everything off it and in the dumpster. The bricks as well(unless the owner wants them). Mobile homes are a money pit, get in, get out, don't draw this out!

I just did a mobile home, it took 3 days start to finish with 2 guys. I was able to burn on site which cut down on the out of pocket cost. I would rent a dumpster in your case.

Plan on spending a lot more on a dumpster. I've done them before, and there's always more C&D than estimated.

There were three mobile homes on craigslist today for free in my area..no way of transporting..sounds like a challenge though..

$1000 is way more than I have ever gotten to remove a trailer house.....then again, I yank them up and pull them home to break them down, so I have less invested in multiple trips to the site.

Since you have no torch, I would have to agree with the above sentiment, assuming that you have axles and wheels.....after it's clean iron, find out locally what towing it legally entails, and tow it whole. You could flip half of the frame over onto the other half, and secure for towing. 12' wide should be legal in most states. Use the money to buy a torch :)

Going either Friday or Monday to fetch a 14x65. I am doing it for free, but the client is a regular of mine who gives me lots of farm scrap for free.

Not a lot of metal there with a shingle roof and vinyl siding, and you would play h*ll hauling a half a double wide esp. a used one probably falling apart. You'd scatter it from here to yon unless you took precautions. You would have to either beef up or close off the open side to keep the wind from ripping it apart on the highway. And if that happens you'd be lucky to not go to jail, at least in our state you would. Good luck,,,

I would tell him he has to pay the dumpster fees plus give you the thousand.The wiring is probably aliminum and the frame will weigh less than you think.

Teah the frame is about 1500 lbs or so on a norm trailer.

I researched mobile home recycling a few years back. Never did the job, but came across this report:
(can't post links) The report is at Heartwood resources .org. It is at the bottom of the page in a blue box marked "items of interest" click on "MMHAT report"

The report has several case studies on cost and profit associated with mobile home recycling. The case studies are in the back of the report.
Apparently asbestos is a concern.
Heartwood Resources (the company) resells the architectural elements (trusses etc) of the mobile homes in addition to scrapping metal.
