Question about brass bus bars

Hi there today i picked up some brass bus bars out of a pile of junk, the problem
is that they where sitting in a big plastic tool box with water on the bottom of it,
and i pulled out all of the screws but some of them had rust on them, and a lot
of the screws looked like they where made of brass so i kept them, and now
some of the brass bus bars have rust and some other crap coated on them.

Because they have rust iron and other crap on them will they be worth anything
as scrap? Or do they have to be completely clean? And is there anyway to clean
the crap off them?

My yard will take them as clean brass as long as there is no steel on them. If you still want to clean them, use a SOS pad and some elbow grease.

Hi there do you take the screws out or leave them in there? I think the ones i have are brass.

As long as a magnet doesn't stick to them, leave them in.

When the yard says 'clean' it means a different thing compared to when you look at your knives and forks when they come out of the dishwasher. To a yard, clean means all of the metal on the scale is of the same type. In this case, it is all brass. If you had steel mixed in with the brass, that's not clean, it's dirty (or mixed metals).

You might get a premium price if your copper is bright and shiny, but this isn't the case with most metals, so there is little profit in spending your polishing your brass before you take it in to be weighed.

Grind the bars I would guess it is plated No 2 Cu.

Most Buss bar is either al or cu.I have not seen any brass buss bar.Not saying they dont use it. Good Luck

They look like brass to me and like freon said if the magnet dose not stick throw them in then brass bucket.

if it is brass plated copper... then it still would have to go with your brass....
