Is there i difference in the value of the amd 486 chips vs the intel 486?
Pretty sure the IBM/Cyrix/Ti 486 have about .1g/chip GOLD while Intel 486 can be up to .2g/chip.
I have a link to values but I can't post it.
Some chips are more collectable then others so the best value would be for collectors then scrap depending on the quantity and condition.
Do you mean this one; http://www.scribd.com/doc/28911037/G...t-in-CPU-Chips
Or maybe this one? http://www.chipsetc.com/gold-value-i...ter-chips.html
Yes, the top link. There are people into gold that have forums discussing this stuff as well. Ever since the price of gold skyrocketed people are melting down all kinds of CPUs they normally would not have bothered with. Pentium Pros are going to be very rare soon (for example).
I think you would get much for a Cyrix 586-120 (for example, 486 socket chip kind of rare) on ebay then for the gold content (if the pins havn't been damaged too much).
My ewaste buyer pays different rates for different maufactures. Check with your buyer to be certain. Mike.
My current buyer is changing his prices due to Chinese boards. He said, the day before his truck was coming to pick-up a load they faxed him a new price sheet. I noticed a lot of Chinese boards in Flat screens, but not sure about the PCB's. Most of the PC's I break down are old. My buyer pays more for Pent. Pro, then 486. $17 for Pent. Pro and $6 for 486. Each. Can someone tell me which PC's have the Chinese boards? And thanks Mechanic688 for the links. I'm buying from a local yard, that does not pay for e-waste, and was still a little foggy on value of CPU's.
