1986 Cadillac Fleetwood
So the above mentioned car came into my work a coupleweeks ago. Siezed ac compressor. After getting an estimate to install an idler pulley they said forget it and came to pick it up, telling me they were going to call the scrapyard down the street. I gave them my number and told them to call me after calling the yard. Today I get a call. They tell me itll be 250 or 200 if they can have the hubcaps. turns out they never called the yard.
So, could someone give me a brief estimate what its worth? I figure cut the cat, pull the batt, alt, starter, drain the tank of gas, and see what I can get. Any tips?
-
Jump on it! Let them keep the hubcaps!
-
The car is going to weight about 2 ton, give to take a couple hundred, you should get a Large GM converter, $80-130 depending on your prices.
-
You can live without the hub caps
-
I figured that on the hubcaps lol. And I figured id at least double my money but didnt want to get my hopes up
-
Good money there jump all over it
-
if the ac compressor is all that is wrong you ought to be able to sell it down in the hood in about 5 min. for $1000 or more as long as it is not beat to hell.
-
-
about $700 if you strip everything cats, alt, compressor, starter, etc.
-
Looks better than my ride just sitting there. Of course, my 15-year-old Honda still gets 30+ mpg with the AC going without my even half-trying to save gas. By doing lots of "neutral driving" I can push it up around 40 mpg. That thing looks like it would be lucky to get half the mpg.
-
Well guys I'm going to pick it up today. I didn't get a close look at it when it was at my work, but i've been told by a couple guys it's beat to piss. Lucky it's only about 2 miles from my brothers house. I'm driving it over there, stripping it down in his garage, and dragging it in before the closest yard closes. I'll post what I get. I know it's routine for alotta you guys, but it's exciting for me because it's the first car I've scrapped since I started really scrapping. And carolina, if I could get 700 I'd **** bricks.
-
Best of luck GnR...sounds like a great day!
-
i don't think $700 was a high price. Last year i took a 96 fleetwood to the scrapyard and got $523 in weight $140 for the two cats $60 for aluminum rims another $60 for the tires and $55 in the battery, rad, alt, compressor, starter. Total $838.
-
Well Im pissed. Got 317 total. Only gave me 45 for the cat. I pulled the batt, alternator, power steering pump, and the exhaust cuz it was brand new.
-
But the education is worth a lot. At least you made SOME money and experience which will come in handy for the next one.
-
True. I wanted to pull a few more parts but we were running outta time. And I cant argue with $117 and $54 worth of gas
-
only 317 **** what do they pay a ton there.Because something isnt adding up.
-
Focker, I dont know. I think the scale is rigged, lol
-
You dont know what they pay per ton or what it weighed? You need to educate yourself before you scrap stuff.
-
Yeah, you should have gotten paid by the pound. That car should have weight around 2 ton and you should have gotten at least $400 for the car, $6 for the batter, $80 for the cat, couple bucks for the alternator.
Didn't you get a scale slip saying how much your car weighed?
