What to deduct for missing hard drive?

I searched Hard Drive in the forum and went through 4-5 pages and didn't see a answer to my question, I may have over-looked it or maybe didn't come to it, but anyway....

I have a guy bringing me some "mid sized" towers from his work. He said they usually pay someone to take them away, and he is going to bring me 5-10 to start. All of them are complete, minus the hard drives which they take out and destroy themselves. I quoted him 4-5 for complete, regular house hold towers, I'm not really sure what he means by "mid sized", but what do you guys suggest I deduct for the missing hard drives?

I'd deduct $1.00 ea.

Im with mechanic. Most hd's are worth just over a dollar.

I deduct $1 for missing hard drive, and $1 for missing RAM. Of course I pay 75 cents for a hard drive and RAM by th pound outside the box

Maybe I haven't had enough coffee yet this morning. If he normally PAYS to have them taken away, what is it you need to deduct? Unless of course YOU are now paying HIM?

lol, reminded me of an auction i went to. I was interested in two long pipes for making a boom, and had decided I'd go $10 on them, but when we got to there, they decided to include them in a stack of old bicycles(which i didn't care for) so i asked to bid on the pipes separately. When they opened the bidding i said $10! (no further bids) lol, later i realized if i'd only said $1 there would probly been no other bids either! ohwelll!

I also deduct $1 per item but no mother board no $

The company he works for usually pays someone to have them taken away. He is now taking them from his company free of charge and selling them to me.

Okay, follow up question. My yard pays .55 per pound. Sounds like you guys are getting better money for them than that. What are they worth? I've been searching the forum and can't find pricing.

I assume Buryly you are asking how much are hard drives worth. And your yard will pay $.55/lb for hard drives. If that is for hard drives with out the boards then I would jump on it. I doubt that they pay that much for them with out the board.

PTS and others here on the forum will pay more than that for hard drives. Please check with them for their requirments.

As far as what they are worth they are mainly Al and some have SS covers plus the boards. I know someone counted a number of boards to make one pound but I don't remeber now. I may go weight some up today and report back. Mike.

Thanks, Mike. I'm trying to figure out whether to tear them down or sell them as is.

if they are 80gb or higher drives please sell them to me whole :) so I can test them for resell. I personaly break my drives all the way down and I would say on average a scrap drive brings in about $1 if completely broken down. Of course this all depends on current price of alluminium. Cast mostly since thats the bulk of the weight.
