hi guys, i just signed up and new member. i hope this isnt posted anywhere else as i couldnt find it if so.
i live in Maine, and here you pay a .05 bottle deposit on cans and get it back when you bring to a redemption center. my question is. are they worth more than the .05 each can?
cause if so ill save them up alot longer. thanks
best as i recall, isn't there like 22 cans to a pound ? i think your nickel is the best deal
My yard pays $.66 a lb. for cans. About 24 cans to a pound. 24x.05= $1.20
This is what suck with deposit laws. You lend the state of Maine .05 deposit on a can then have to wait to get your money back for it! So you never really get anything for the aluminum value!

The thing with a deposit is that it actually COSTS you. You have to have a place to store them. Then buy a bag to put them in. Then drive them to the recycle place (gas, time and wear/tear on the car). All to get back the nickel you put out as a deposit.
yeah, i was afraid of this. it sucks :) there was a place giving you .06 each, but they changed back to .05

No deposit here in Illinois, Also its 34 cans = a pound. .58 a lb here that makes a can worth 1.7 cents
In Oregon some of the Walmarts have reverse vending machines to redeem the cans.
A normal size can weighs 15grams. We, in NZ get NZ$1.50+/Kg for cans. (NZ$=US$0.85cents)
Although it costs you initially(as required for deposit) you should try and recoup it. Storing them is temporary, crushing them will take up less space. Bags, boxes or any containers aren't scarce. As far as getting them there, plan it so coincides with your next outing.
If you can find free cans then .05 is a pritty good deal.
