Unless you have a plastic buyer paying more then what shred is worth, and the yard doesn't care leave it on. Leave as much on as you can get away with.
My yard allows me to leave the plastic on, but if they had boards inside they wouldn't pay me....it's a wacky world!
plastic is mere waste, printed circuit boards are toxic waste with lead etc. I at first cleaned up a bunch so good, it was probably the shiniest stuff they'd ever seen, and all i wound up with was a pile of plastic to have to get rid of
I got blasted on this forum for saying a little plastic never hurt. Lmfao
Not by me.....I was finally able to show my old man that he only got $0.03 a pound more for cleaning off the plastic that added 5 more # to his weight. So he made $2.50 more for HOURS of labor.....Not worth it in my mind.Quote:

at the yard i got to if i leave the plastic on i get shred price,but if i clean almost all of the plastic off they will give me white goods price for the load.(but lots of plastic in a washer???) turns a .05 lb load into a .13 lb load. Worth the extra time for me, but i drive by the dump on the way to work everyday so plastic disposal isnt a problem for me.
Mike I hope it wasn't me who blasted you. I gave up being righteous when I discovered my yard pays the same shred price for a car containing seats plastic rubber etc as they do for steel girders. There's something wrong with that equation. Makes me tempted to throw all the crap on my workbench from breaking stuff down into my shred box.
I junked an old swing set last week and when I looked at my slip it said minus 20 pounds for plastic!! I complained at the desk and I told her I bet the slip that is was about 5 pounds , she credited me with the full amount .
If it's easy to remove I pull it off and dump it in my plastic pile. Trying to find a place that will recycle it...even if for free. If it's more trouble then it's worth it stays on. Maybe 1 out of 15-20 computer cases still has some plastic on it. Yard takes it all as shred. I figure if they don't look sideways at a fridge with all of that plastic a little on a case doesn't make much difference. They are normally looking for people filling stuff up with cement, sand, etc. then they are plastic.
