the value of fairness and loyalty in business

I feel like I need to make a statment here. We are all in business to make money, and not only that but as much money as we can, that is how we feed our families and pay our employees. That said, most of us need the help and mentorship of others along the way to success, That is the very essence of this forum.

In my opinion America as we knew it is going down the toilet rapidly. I believe one of the main reasions is the morality of doing business in America has largly gone by the way side.

there are several aspects of morality in business and inour daily lives, One of the most important , I believe is loyalty, loyalty to your family, supplying them with what they need. Loyalty to your employees and treating them as they treat you. but there is one loyalty that has suffered more then all the others. That is the loyalty to those who have helped you along the way. The Government has even forgotten this , in fact they have eliminated it all together, by over taxation, and primarily by throwning railroad tie size speed bumps on the road to success by the way of over regulation. that is all I will say on that here. it is just my opinion.


steve Jobs , held up as an American hero and Icon, for the success of Apple the top company in America, oh waite in reality it is not an American company it is a Chinese company.

We have been taught by the actions of such companies and our government that loyalty is only worth couple of pennys on the dollar.

To regain the American sperit, and the real American way, it is my opinion we must turn back, back to the days when loyalty to those who have helped you along the way are not sold out for a few pennys. There is such a thing a carma, and carma is the either the greatist friend or the most terrible bit*h it is going to be your choice which according to your own actions.

If some one helped you along the way out of their own greed, they will suffer their own carma.

As you grow your business you will be approached along the way by those who will offer you a few pennies for your loyalty you and only you must decide if it is worth it. If we are talhing a lot of pennies on the dollar then something is amiss. either your current buyer is not being fair or what ever but first discuss the situation with those who helped you build your empire. As for me loyalty can not be bought for a few pennys.

At this point I want to say E Wasted and his company and employees have gone way beyond the pale of necessity to help me along the way it will take a lot of pennys to buy that loyalty. just my .02

Agree 100% I just hope the notion of loyalty will start catching on and expanding to people outside the forum. It will help us all in the long run - I find that as you abide by the loyalties that you have set up in you life; there are always outside sources trying to tempt you out of your boundaries by offering gifts or better prices (buy or sell) and you are constantly faced or affected by the people that do not have any loyalties and/or are out for themselves regardless of the aftermath it causes. It's difficult but keep your chin up all in all you are the better person for sticking to self set standards. The biggest person you can let down is yourself.

good people are getting fewer and farther between OldDude, that sadly seems to be a sign of our times. I already consider a few I've met on here to be among the very best, and will always appreciate that fact.

when a 3rd grader joins a baseball team where no score is kept and there are no winners and loosers, what do you think they learn. They learn there is no reasion to provide maximum effort, for there is no reward for hard work and winning and winners are not allowed. hard work and team work create the foundation for loyalty to yout fellow players and the team. with out winners there is no team, no loyalty. they can only be loyal to them selves no one else. so it become not what the designers intende d, but it becomes all about each individual me me me. they think it makes every one equil, it dosen't. each kid knows who is better then himself or worse then him self, and team work and loyalty are lost they instead are taught to do what the master (coach) says only. this is where it starts.

Couldn't agree more. Loyalty is one of most important morals in my opinion, getting harder and harder to find everyday. I've been hauling to the same yard for 8years and have no intention of ever going anywhere else

I couldn't agree more, but on the flip side some companies take advantage of your loyalty. My dad recently had his vehicle breakdown cover renewal through the post. It was for £329 a year for family membership. When I saw the price I nearly choked. I got on the phone to them (pretending to be him) and when I had finished he had the same cover for £145.

It's the same thing with insurance. If you stay with the same firm and do not shop around they often jump up the prices every year and you can end up paying much more than you would if you were a new customer.

I agree 100% with what olddude has said, but loyalty should be a two way street. Some big companies forget that sometimes.

Although having fun needs to be up at the top of the list, the ultimate goal of a team needs to be success. Plain and simple, winning is fun! Figuring out and convincing each player what their role is on the team becomes the job of a good coach. Once a player knows what their job is and how it fits into "their team's success", the magic can and will happen.

sadly lack of loyalty is rampant in todays society. It has become the norm.

loyalty is one thing, blind loyalty is another.

Funny. I was just having a very similar conversation with my preferred buyer. I do business with people who treat me right, and who offer service beyond the sale. I strongly believe in Karma, and I feel it's important to make sure that everyone makes some money, and everyone leaves the deal happy.

I have a series of P4 machines, my buyer has a relationship with a computer store. He told me what his shop owner pays, and I offered him a price below that so he makes some money on the deal. I feel that if he brokers the deal, he needs to make some money on it.

Can I sell to another buyer that is an equal distance to me? Yes. Might I make a couple more $$? Probably. Do I care, nope. Because my buyer is saving me a trip this time and coming to me....so i don't pay shipping, I don't pay gas, and I get to show off a little....A few pennies, less, a lot of time saved. Time I'm spending to pick up a "Box Truck" worth of stuff at a local school...
