A-Frame Evaporator Coil???

I was making rounds tonight in my old neighborhood.... and found a A-Frame Evaporator coil, already broke down to about this level out for the garbage...

This is just a picture off the web... Anyway, I saw on here about the trouble with air conditioner units and removing freon, getting yards to take it, etc., etc. Just wondering if I should just forget about doing anything with it...

What the likely pay would be for something like this...

And if I was going to try squeeze more money out of it, if anyone had any recommendations on removing the iron from the ends....

If it's down to the point as shown in the picture, then there is no freon.

Got a sawzall? Run it down the inside of the iron.

Thanks... yeah it's empty.... just didn't know if I was going to have trouble unloading it without documentation, since I found it, set out for the trash. Is there a lot of difference in what they would pay without sawing...

yes... It is "dirty" if it has steel in it... My yard pays $1.10/pound for a/c "fins" that measns with the steel end plates come off... it also maximizes your $$$ because the copper loops at the end and the other copper pipes are worth more, plus you have some brass if the fittings are still there.

However, when you cut the ends off, I prefer to cut on the outside of the steel, rather than the inside... reason is, I can tap the plate off with a hammer and I don't have to mess around popping each copper loop free from the steel end plate.

Yes, I would agree, if you have an angle grinder with a metal cut off blade that would work best, cut copper elbows off on the out side of the steel and cut them or grind them down to the metal take a pair of pliers and pull the metal off. No waste and you'll end up with a bunch of #2 copper as well.

i also cut along the outside but i use a hacksaw lol. i supose i could try using side snips to reduce waste from cutting copper loops cause you get some copper dust doing it with a hacksaw i usually just put the dust back in with my #2 lol

^^^^ Good idea on cutting along the outside of the steel. Getting the copper loops out of the steel can be a real pain...

agreed then just smack the steel with a hammer but if the copper loops are not cut right the steel can give you problems.

I use a diamond masonry cutting blade in an angle grinder. Lasts way longer and doesn't shatter.

Here in Florida, I needed a bunch of convoluted paperwork to turn in AC or refrigeration parts. Once I showed them that I had a business, there was no more restrictions or necessary paperwork.
