MY trip to the DMV
So I went to the DMV last week to get the plates on my truck. Man I miss the east coast. Plates cost me $150. Anyway while I was sitting there and older man was getting handicap plates for his car. Well he had just gotten his regualr plates like 3 months ago. Well since he was getting his new plates with the handicap thing on the plate it cost an aditional "FEE". What I thaught was funny is the old man hit it right on the head when he told the lady behind the desk " I cant believe your going to TAX me to get a handicapped plate". Then the lady looked him straight in the eye and said "Its a FEE sir not a TAX".
That got me thinking about things and how the government collects taxes and so called FEES from us all the time.
Tax
[taks] Show IPA
noun
1.
a sum of money demanded by a government for its support or for specific facilities or services, levied upon incomes, property, sales, etc.
2.
a burdensome charge, obligation, duty, or demand.
So its my opinion that the law makers of late are passing alot of laws with fees attatched to them and saying they arnt rasing taxes. I mean this year alone ATV and boat registration went up $10 and $20 each. Call it what you will but I think the old dude had it right when he called it a TAX. Anytime you pay your money to a government agency its a TAX not a FEE.

Yep. The gubmint's solution is not to reduce out of control spending, but to nickel and dime its citizens.

My trailer that I paid $15 for years is now almost $40.

a few years ago in michigan they offered a one time permanent trailer plate. This was done when the state was in one of its many financial binds. It only was offered for a year or so before they realized how much future income they were losing. It was suppose to be non transferrable but i have had it on at least 3 trailers.

That is the kind of thing that I would almost print out in a business card size either to pass out, or laminate and show it when the argument comes up.
Thanks for the defintion even though those of us that think straight know the difference, those goofy people they (meaning we) employ don't.
