Found 3 crochet clubs, I was letting my son go wild with it on a tear down, he was hitting things , well i tried it on a TV yolk & it's the best hammer type devise i ever used , Lite weight so you can swing it all day, the long handle helps you keep your distance from object and large head cracks the plastic and short well. its better then a hammer.
my ex used to crochet but she used needles not clubs!!
There's really no need to be breaking the yoke on a tv to get the copper.

Ok im guilty of breaking off the yokes if there is not SS clips holding it there. Anyone got a trick? cause those suckers dont wanna move off there
Of all the TVs and monitors I have broken down, I only had one accidental yoke break on me. There are always either ty-wraps, screws and those plastic spinny things that choke down on the yoke or some combination there of. No need to break it at all.
Usually, I can just twist the copper part by hand till comes off. If there is a clamp holding it, I'll loosen the clamp first.
Me too, parrothead...broke one by accident and it scared me half to death !
Yah, the yoke assemblies that have epoxy injected into them to hold them in place are a pain. I just removed four today. I took them off the CRTs in pieces. After removing metal banding around the yoke assembly, I gently forced a large flat head screw driver in between the two ferrite pieces and turned the screw driver (like I was removing a screw) to pry the two outer pieces apart. Once I had the outer pieces off, I pried the the rest of the yoke assembly off from the bottom (the edge closest to the screen). I worked my way around slowly, only using just enough pressure/torque. I wear safety glasses, but I think a face shield would be a good idea.Quote:

Cricket Clubs I meant - sure I get the yoke off , then comes the club no need to bust up a tv but usually the gas comes out .they can be twisted off but you have a big square circuit board at the end , once you Crack off a yolk it gets rid of the shock hazard I found any way , some times i find it more a danger when you take a tv apart slow trying to pry off gently and wiggling cause the longer you take the more time you are near it to get a shock or bust a tube , I seen on Utube a way to ground a tv to defuse it . but for me i have no need as i am not repairing a tv so I cut the red wire pop the end of the yolk till it cracks , & found it is safe
I hold my breath as i do this work for the 30 seconds it takes me.
then i put the back panel back i bring it to a municipal building that takes the tvs . we don't have a good will , salvation army will also take them.

Do him and yourself a favor and get a lead test kit! Holding your breath for 30 seconds does what ?
I can picture lead all over everything in your work area. This is a huge hazard to your sons health!

Thank you otto but with epoxy injected ones im just gonna keep bashing them. I mean if you do it right there isnt crazy amounts of blow back of the little flakes. hell probably such a bad idea health wise. Im gonna put this into the Darwinism file of things i do for money :-p

The tube holds juice for sure . cut the red wire & never touch tv wile you cut it - just cut fast with insulated lines men . crack yoke & also never touch whilst you do that also. don't breath till complete
Just so you know, the "juice" is also contained in the capacitors on the circuit board. That's why I recommend a ground strap made out a piece of 12-10 ga stranded wire and a pair of clamps off of a junk battery charger. Clamp one end to something metal and the other end to an insulated screwdriver, use the screwdriver to brush across the caps. on the bottom of the board to discharge them then you can stick the end of the driver under the suction cup on the tube. Never did i get a zap from tv's or monitors. I got sparks from a wire I cut from a ceiling fan that sat in my garadge for two months. Scared the crap out of me.
