My yard only wants to give me shred price for appliance motors with aluminum windings. They give me motor scrap price ones for the copper windings. Am I getting ripped off? What do you guys get for them? Thanks!

Yeah, you are a little, my yard will sometimes only gives me breakage price for motors with aluminumwire. Depends on who is working that day.
Most of the time if you put them in with a load with mostly copper windings they pay me the same about .25 .30 a lb. It's my thinking though that if a typical yard is willing to pay .25 a lb. for dirty aluminum than whats the beef with motors that have alum. windings? wb
My yard paid me .27 today for a load that included some larger motors that had aluminum windings. Another yard about 15 miles away pays .30. With the cost of gas I don't think it would be worth the extra drive unless I'm doing enough volume.
I still cut them out. Granted I dont do many of them but my yards will pay me 81 cents a pound for clean aluminum wire.
And you get the difference between 'shread' & 'heavy iron' for the iron.Quote:

My yard has a set price for 'Ali contaminated heavy iron'. Dunno what it is, just a bit under the heavy iron price.
It all gets dumped in the same pile, I just get less than full price for it.
Thats were all my electric armatures ended up.
