Government auction for several spools of "shield copper telephone wire". I did a google search and checked the listing but really don't know what it is. Anyone know what this wire is and what percentage of copper it might return. Here's the link, Mike.

can't realy tell from tyhe pic's, but all the telephone wire I get gos in #2 insalated. thats all I know.

The third pic has a NATO stock number. The corresponding manufacturers number is WF-16U(1 MILE). A search on that brings up the following:

With the steel strands, I don't know how attractive it would be for scrap. Perhaps one of the wire processors could comment.
Otto, thanks for the link. The way I read it the first one listed WD-1A/TT and WD-1A/TT has the steel stands. I saw nothing to suggest that the WF-16/U has any thing other than copper cadmium alloy. It also states it is 62 lbs per mile, 432lbs for the approximate 7 miles listed on the auction. With pallets this would put it in the ballpark of 450lbs as stated in the listing.
I am close by and could go check it out before making a bid. I would like to be fairly certain that the deal would be worthwhile before driving the 2 hr round trip just to chek it out. I need to learn more if I am going to participate in this type auction.

This isn't an official government website. It's likely they're using the "gov" in their domain name to acquire some credibility. Real government websites use the .gov domain extensions which is unattainable by civilians like you or myself. They're likely just on contract to sell some stuff for the government without having any "real" affiliation with them. Their incentive to lie likely comes from the percentage of the final sale price.Quote:

miked i saw that same auction and its only about 15 min down the road from me. i have picked up a few good things there in the last couple years.well not really good things, but they all put money in my pocket. i can save you the 2hour trip if you want, i am going to look at a few other things there as well. just let me know.
