LCD Monitor tear down

I found a discarded 30" LCD flat panel TV last week that powered on but was beyond repair and ended up tearing down to see how much weight in circuit boards it contained.

I recovered 3lbs Hi Grade boards 1 lb Low Grade and about a lb of wire. Only problem was when I took it to the yard they sorted all the parts into low grade and paid 1.05lb :mad:

You got paid $1.05 a pound for the power supply board as well? If so I am taking a road trip to washington very soon.

Agreed at that price taking appart power supplies would be worth it.

No they pay .20 lb for power supply board. I only took in green boards.

Why would you sell hi-grade boards to a local scrapyard? Their in the business to pay as little as they possibly can to the unknowing people, if you've done any reading on here you would know you could get almost twice that price. Just saying, their your boards to do with as you like,,,

Mechanic, this is not always the case. My yard pays 3.25 per pound for motherboards/finger cards. They do not differentiate between #1, #2, and #3 motherboard. Yes, the buyers here pay more than that, but shipping is expensive.

I have found that by selling it to my yard I am saving a lot of time and taking the same amount(or slightly less) of cash home with me. I also avoid paypal fees and waiting for a check in the mail.

I mail my logic boards, CPU's and RAM because they are cheap to ship, and my yard does not have great prices on them.

I think that if you live near a a major port city, your chances of finding a local buyer with decent prices is probably pretty good. If you live in Kansas, you probably wont.

Your not that far from some of the better buyers down in Cleveland, I traveled 4 hours each way but it was still cheaper than shipping. I was referring to the original post at $1.05 a lb. But it was only a couple of lbs. If it'd been a couple of hundred pounds of boards I would have cried for him.

Answer Because I needed money and they pay 3.50 lb for Hi Grade.

I sell them boards cans and aluminum and have shipped E Scrap to SMF members for higher prices. Made another run today and got:
ICW Low Grade .66
Electronic Breakage .10
Power Supply .40
Brass 1.70
AL Irony .26
Al Cans .49

There was a guy in front of me who got $20 for a silver money clip and you'd thought he won the lottery. It's fun seeing people getting 'Scrap Religion'

Those are some pretty good prices street sweeper. One thing I have noticed is that a lot of the yards quote very low on board pricing unless you call B.S. on them. They do not want Joe Schmoe coming in with 2 bright red or blue motherboards and 1 stick of RAM looking to make a fortune. If they know you can bring them decent weight they will treat you right.
