Does anyone know the costs of shipping a semi trailer load? I know the are variables like distance and weight, but I am just trying to get an quick thumbnail on shipping a semi full of gaylords 100 miles. accuracy not necessary, just curious if it is $100, $1000 or $10000
I usually figure about 2.00 a mile, seems to work for me. LTL loads are all over the board.

You can count on it being between $2.00 and $2.50 per running mile.
If I could find a 1.00 per mile commercial carrier, I would never start my pickup...ever. At 4-6 mpg, that does not even cover fuel.Quote:

See if the buyer of the material uses any carrier on a regular business. If so they may be able to get you a better rate. With a 10 pllet minimum my one buyer can get it shipped to them for about 600 dollars and they will split the cost with me. Thats about 300 miles. S0 2.00 a mile sounds about right.
Freightquote.com does FTL an LTL, pallets, boxes, etc.
I book shipments with them several times a year.

Not sure if this is of any use, but I know that we can ship a full truck (40k lbs of freight) from Kansas to Ohio for about $1700, which breaks down to less than a nickel a pound. Compare that to when we have to ship just 5 or 6 gaylords, which runs us about $0.20-0.25 per pound.
