At your age you have no business taking a tv apart without a grown up next to you. I will further say a grown up who has experience breaking down tv's. LEAVE THEM ALONE!
I've read your posts that you like tv's thats great but this is a scraping forum. Go look for things to take to the scrap yard or what ever you guys down there call them. Put some money in your pockets and learn something. I wish you the best of luck, Mike.
I've done electrical work, I've done welding work, and to this day, the worst electrical shock I've ever got was from a t.v. that hadn't been plugged in for two years back when I first started scrapping and didn't know enough to have any business breaking a t.v. apart. I went about it like any inexperienced kid would have, grapping wires, and ripping them out, cutting into rubber with a pocket knife (thats when the big blue arc hit me in the forearm and drawed my arm up tight to my chest). I have to agree with Mike on this one. You have to crawl before you can walk, do some research, break yourself in on some "safe" items. Once you get some knowledge, then move on to bigger/more complicated things and you'll do great. there are things in a t.v. that can hold a strong electrical charge for quite a long time, even after a t.v. has been in storage or thrown out. No one wants you to not scrap, they just want you to scrap as safely as possible.
sorry i forgot about that copper wire, i recently stripped a old computer monitor and i sold the copper to a local yard
computers monitors and tvs are the same concept. Just used for 2 different things is all.
i would like to try the tv for a computer monitor thing
Tube tv's do not make good computer monitors. The resolution on them is way to bad. Now if your talking a new LCD tv then they work great.
i have old solid state tvs with RCA inputs, i need a vga to rca cable right?
My brother hooks his lap top to his 50 inch tv. It takes browsing Craigslist to a whole nother level haha.

tvs are dangerous, they can ruin your chances of having kids son. be advised
yeah, especially when the other half likes to stay up all night watching the late show. Wait, that's not how you meant that :)
They work but arnt the best :) I have aa 24 inch monitor which will have better resolution capabilty then the TV
i am gonna try this with a 5 inch portable tv
Good luck TPAK
Hey TPAK

Primarily from the electrical charge a CRT TV can sometimes retain after it is turned off. CRT TV's don't tend to explode as the tube is a vacuum, so when the tube breaks the air rushes in, not out. CRT TV's do, however, contain elements such as lead within the CRT tube.
