separate copper/aluminum coils?

I have read a few posts here and the main consensus im finding is that is not worth it. But i have not seen the numbers on it.
So since im a curious fellow (and bored at the moment) I chopped up a small section of one of the coils in my shop. This section took about 5 minuts to clean.

Start weight 2lb 11.75oz
End result copper 1lb 6.25oz
Leaving 1lb 5.50oz aluminum

Unfortunatly its to late for me to call my local scrap yards so I have no idea what the price diffrence is between the two. Im hopeing someone can kindly give a close estimate so i can figure out the rest.

#2 copper $3.25 ish a lb

AL $0.50 ish a lb

Thanks, but what about the price for the coil as is(so I can compare).

#2 cu 2.52
Al 0.50
mtrs 0.20

My yard pays 2.70 on the copper, 50 cents on the aluminum sheet and 1.50 on clean radiators.

Ok, so under those prices i would make about $.05 for 10 minuts of labor /sigh. Ill find out in the morning what my local yard gives. Hopefully the answer wont be so discouraging.

For me if one or all the coils are Al I toss it in the mtrs pile. If the coil is Cu only then I seperate the Cu. Mike.

You don't make a lot of money on any 1 single item. Your money comes from quantity, and in most cases quality as well.

My local yard pays $0.45 for clean Al sheet, $2.70 for #2 Cu, and $1.20 for copper/Al radiators.

CU/Alum Raidators/coils clean no iron $1.35
Sheet iron/steel .10 lb

I just cut off the iron and the copper loops and turn in the clean raidators as is.

I have not found a easy way to separate better to turn the clean radiators in whole

basically what hobo said

you can trim off the copper loops that stick out the ends and sell them as #2 copper, then your left with cu/al fin

sometimes you have to do that regardless because of the steel plate on the ends
