scrapping over
I've been lurking the forum for a few weeks and thought I'd register. This forum has been instrumental in researching the mechanics of the industry. My yard here in central VA pays me .11/lb for shred steel. Lately I've been taking them copper and aluminum in small quantities (< 20lb) to establish how much they'll give for more. Today I got .50/lb for 6063 and 2.25 for #2 copper. The copper was harvested from tube TVs and transformers. It was what I'd consider #2 Brite. Should I keep it segregated from corroded extension cord wire, corroded small dia. copper pipe or 30% non-ferrous wire? Is this consistant with what and how small yards pay? The big place is 30mi away.
Thanks for this forum.

Welcome to the forum Charles. I get .12lb shred. $2.52lb #2 copper. There is no bright Cu out I know so through it in the same bucket.
Go slow at first and if you have a good yard you can bring in an example of something and ask them what they grade it and how much they pay. Experience will build quicky and this forum has tons of free information available. Take the time to read the old posts, you find you will get the answer to questions you didn't know you had. Mike.
