Emergency! 24 hours to act

A buddy of mine's uncle got his house foreclosed. He let me come in and take whatever I wanted out of the garage. I got a whole bunch of steel, nothing serious, but he has a Buick (not sure of year or sub model) and he said if I can get it out tomorrow by 12 noon, it's mine. I can sell it to a local junkyard for $420, but they usually take 3 or more days to dispatch a truck. 'Junk my car' is only offering $150 and they might not even be able to come out in time. The car is in amazing shape, 120k on the body, but no engine and trans. I have the engine, my buddy has the trans. I figured we'd just scrap them as I am not sure of the condition.

So pretty much, should I rent a tow dolly for $60 and tow it to a junk yard or is there someone in the Metro Detroit, Michigan area that would be willing to help me out?

ide call a local tow truck company see how much they want to tow it for you. If its more than 60 bucks then rent the dolly.

Local tow company will be the cheapest route. While your waiting... Grab the the wire, mercury switches and converter.

I'm trying to figure out if there is a different rout that will yield more profit because of the condition of the car. I don't have a place to store it but if someone will be able to pay more for it and part it out, I want to know.

I did, but the car is in amazing shape and has only 120k on the body. In this case, it would be worth more than scrap. I'm trying to distinguish, because I only have 24 hours, if I should take the $420 minus the $60 or if I should try to find someone else who would pay more.

If you can't get a tow and you have a truck/van I would just cut it up in the garage. You have the engine and transmission anyway, so a few cuts later you have the doors, trunk, bonnet and roof. Cut out the seats then just have some fun with the grinder. If you choose youre cuts well and there are two of you to load up it will be easier than it looks. Fun too.

Sounds logical. I think I'll do that.

About cutting it up, I would if I had the time to. :s

Start at 8am and you will be done a long time before noon.

How far do you have to go with it? Can you tow it with a chain?

Alright so apparently he doesn't have the title for it. At this point, it looks like I'm either going to need to cut it up, or find a scrap yard that doesn't need the title. Suggestions?

As far as the chain, it is a pretty far drive.

Best advice would be to remove the fuel tank before you start, and take it outside of the garage. Wear safety goggles when you grind, and take it easy. Doors, hood and trunk off first, followed by the roof. Seats next, to give yourself room, and also rip out the carpet. Cut the top of the car from the chassis, then to make it easy jack it up and put it on blocks. Take off the wheels to save wrestling with them later, then cut the chassis into bits two of you can lift together. Take it easy, let the grinder do the work for you and you will be fine. It doesn't take as long as you think. One of you cuts, the other loads up. Just make sure you have enough cutting discs.

Oh, and in the circumstances it wouldn't matter if if you just broke the windscreen and kicked it out and left it at the back of the garage. Anything to save time really.

You mean by using an angle grinder?

The guy is trustworthy but if it comes down to it, I might just walk.

be careful with cars with no paperwork at the very least run the vin through the national insurance crime bureau database.

I parted out my old truck and cut the rest of it up into pieces and brought it to the yard they didnt require a title (or any paperwork) at that point because it was pretty much an assortment of parts
