Dual CL Hit

I started throwing an ad up on Craigslist about two weeks ago. Seems it took a lil while but it's payin off! Tomorrow i'm picking up about 13 tube monitors along with other misc. electronics. He really wanted to get rid of the stuff, he's even going to have someone help me load it.

Another guy got ahold of me saying he had a friend who had quite a bit of Ewaste to get rid of and gave me guy's email address. Hoping "quite a bit" will be my first big score!

Now as far as I can tell, i'm the only guy doin what I do in my area. I see no other ads on CL for people wanting junk electronics. Most are just guys looking to trade parts an rebuild comps. Mostly just curious to see how long this will last...

As soon as "they" see you making money you'll have competition, (usually mexicans will be first, where I live anyway)...seriously. (no offense to anyone , just honestly...it happens to me ALL THE TIME).

...We call it "scooping up" something (when we swing in and pick it up).

i asked a guy at the yard today if i could pull a computer out i spotted in the pile and he said yes i told him i was gonna take the boards out and bring the steel back, everyone wanted to know why i just said i sell the parts on ebay which is the truth :)

Next thing you know, the yard will be buying up electronics and breaking them down; just as my local yards has started to do.
They were getting so many people asking about it that the son of the owner started it up.

There site says that they do,not buy electronic scrap

My yard has been into E-Waste since last summer. They pay $3/lb for high grade boards. Seems their prices are always the same too. Been the same since summer...

Just got another email from a guy who has his own company an says he can DELIVER a van full of E-Waste! Free of charge delivery too ha ha

Mine didn't either till around Dec. 1 still paying real low for the escrap tho.

So turns out guy had close to 20 monitors, mostly crt, some lcd. A paper shredder, mail machine, an old laptop, and a bunch of other little things like electric staplers(which to my amazement had decent sized high grade boards). Well I called guy back because he said there were some old steel shelves in the basement of his insurance co. Turns out, there were a lot of shelves down there. It took me and my partner an hour an a half to load up almost 5 thousand pounds of shelves into the trailer. Easiest $250 i've ever made. Also made off with about 20 lbs of copper pipes and there is a huge cast iron water pipe down there. Goes back so far into the dark I can't even tell where it ends. Sometimes what seems like a little score can easily turn into a big payday.

Good start! You seemingly being the only guy in town is a good thing now, but like other people have said, it's only a matter of time before the others see what yer doing, and will copy it.

My advice, try to get some big box stores as clients, or just some big clients in general, and offer to pay them. NOT alot, but enough to keep them happy.

Why? Because when the other guys out there see what yer doing, they'll think, "how can i take this guys stuff away from him? Ill offer to pay!"

Just a thought. That's what i've done with a few of my big clients. Lots of vulchers out there, all about coverin' yer 6.

i agree with hoss. offer your client something that makes you a valuable asset to them. money, service, or ? spend a little time talking to your client and find out what that client is looking for. and then provide it.

larger clients are concerned about proper disposal and that their data is properly handled. many of those clients will pay you to remove their items as long as you can provide proper documentation showing destruction of data and proper recycling of their electronics.

what you see as valuable scrap, many clients see as potential problems. you need to look at their scrap thru their eyes. alleviate their problems and you will gain both a customer and future reference.
