Do you need a license to collect peoples washing machines, dish washers etc?
I have posted a ad on a website and a lot of people were saying about a WEEE license and I could get into trouble with the environment agency.
Appreciate any relevant answers,

**** that sucks. They done it to encourage the recycling of appliances but with less people to collect it more people are just going to fly tip or send it to land fill. Silly if you ask me.Quote:

You could get stopped by the police and asked for it though if you don't have too much you could get away with saying they are your household goods. If you are doing it as a business though and often have large amounts this will not fly. If you are not able to provide that then well, they haven't really disposed of it correctly. Looking through,f if you intend to export any waste then there are other regulations and possibly another licence to apply at £500 for under 400 tonnes and around £2500 for over 400.
look for this to soon come to Amerika. there just has to be a way to reign in thos pesky independent people who scrap for a living, and squeese, those few dollars out of their greedy hands.

driver = I came from a very large family...I had to buy my wife some new washers..12kids and counting it takes a good amount to get the wash done!

Lmao this sucks anyway because I am 15 and without reading the agreement you probably have to be 18 to get a license anyway.
Maybe one of your parents could get the license for you. Can you drive at age 15 in England and if you can't how do you plan to pick up the appliances? Shows great initiative on your part, btw.Quote:

The license is to watch T.V not for the T.V ownership. -It pays for the BBC chanels which have no adverts. The other chanels theoretically do not need the license though explaining that you only watch these chanels to the court probably wouldn't hold up too well. Now by law all sellers of TV's and digital set top boxes have to take your details on purchase -this I imagine is used to keep a better track on who has TV's and isn't paying their dues. On the flip side, now that television has gone full digital across the country, it's much easier to say you only watch dvd's or play on consoles if you have an older TV and digibox.
Thanks for clearing that up. When I lived in London during the 70's, we were told that people drove around in a van with equipment that could tell if you were watching the telly or not. If they caught you without a license (I thought it was for the tv itself, like for a car) you could get in trouble. I think the BBC were on strike for a least some of that time, because I don't remember watching a lot of tv. This was just prior to Margaret Thatcher and it seemed that everyone was on strike in London at one time or the other.Quote:

Then in about 1997, they decided to stop making you pay for a TV license when someone figured out that 50% of the fee was spend just on collecting the fee in the first place.
