newer box type TV little value !

this relates to another thread I posted last week.

I picked up 2 36 in TVs one was a mid 2000 Omni and the other a Zenith.

the omni was the one with a double wraped Degausing coller 12 ft long. it was aluminium

the Zenith was 3/8 in thick one wrap. it too was aluminium.

it also seemed to me the saddles were wound with much thinner kind of brittle wire. and much lighter but they were copper. dougt f I got $2 worth of copper out of them.

they are heavy bulky and space eaters I will be a little more choosey from this point on.

any one else have this experience

Not yet with a TV but I had my first fully aluminium transformer from a Whirlpool combination microwave grill oven yesterday :( Only my first microwave was fully copper, all others the larger wiring is ali and the smaller copper

Every 'combination' microwave I have ever pulled apart has been a Aluminum transformer.
Something to watch out for, scrapped another one yesterday, waste of $6.

This is good to know, thank you for this, it will save me time and effort in the future.

The huge tv's I don't always pick up either only because I get so little for how huge they are and I can't pick them up. but the other posts about the microwaves, why are you saying its a waste to scrap them if the trans are aluminum? The whole microwave is scrapible so so what if its aluminum and not copper in the transformer? I wouldn't not waste my time on them just because of that since its still money.

Thats hard to read.
A microwave has say 900gms copper in the transformer, 80gms in the magnatron, 25 in the boards tranny & copper wire.
Thats 1Kg Copper.
With Ali in the main tranny, theres only 100gms copper & thats hard to get too, its like 50cents worth, hence the waste of $6.
I'd still have to take off all the plastic before scrapping the steel, which I don't get money for anyway.
Then I have to get rid of the plastic.

Our microwaves here don't have any plastic in them, at least the bigger/older ones; everything is scrappable in it.

There is some plastic, usually the tray spinner inside is plastic, and there's usually a plastic housing/fan on a little motor inside it too.

90% of microwaves over this side of the world have plastic front door, and often plastic sides too. even the see through door panel is plastic :)

I have dismantled 4 this past week, ALL had an alluminium wound transormer.

Brands were

Panasonic
L.G x 2
Bosch

I found my first 'Copper & Ali wire' wound microwave transformer today.

One coil was Copper, the other Ali.
The Ali one weighed 160 grams. I hope I don't find any more of them. The weight difference is obvious when you pick the coil up.
