Why wouldn't the Air Force recycle it's own casings? There is even a yard in this town that has a web site indicating they would take spent rounds. (the yards around here won't take them) At $1.24 / lb that would be a value of $23,700. I wonder what this auction will go for? Maybe someone wants to fly up here and rent some trucks for some fast cash????

I've tried for those before. They wind up going for close to what I would have gotten. I always figured the yards were buying them.
No yards by them they will never sale cheap enough for scrap.The people that buy them reuse them make them new shells again.I would say that lot would go for 25k plus
Yep, re-loaders, survivalists, etc would by them :)
I saw a brass (shells) lot go for $500,000 a few years ago. Some big players out there.
The Air force / Army / military will not recycle itself because it requires the shells to be destroyed. Any empty shells sold by the military for scrap require them to be destroyed.

Shell casings are specifically addressed in the Terms and Conditions.

Theres different primers in Army brass, they are made so they can't be reused without doing extra work to them, making it cost prohibitive.
That way the used brass won't get used against them.
I make stuff from used brass, its hard to find here in NZ, no 'gun culture'.
I'd make stuff from them & generate a lot of money, no one else is doing it.
Also often scrappers won't buy them as they HAVE to know theres no live stuff in there, or even primers, by regulations.
There is a form of Federal Regulation about exporting brass bullet casings. Appearently its a no-go in any form of large quantity
