Stuff just happens

So, woke up this morning and started getting ready to paint. Before that though, I had to call on the bus that I drive to see what the disposition was on that. Bad news, It won't be ready until Friday. Guess, what? No work for me for a week. I am part time and if the bus is not running, I am not working. Tomorrow I will talk to the maintenamce manager and see if he has anything I can do to at least get a few hours in this week.

So, start prepping to paint while wifey goes to start laundry. I hear, "what the f---?". I go out and see that there is water all around the water heater. I move stuff around to see if it is from the heater or the washing machine. It is the water heater leaking out the bottom. Wonderful! Change of game plan for today. Replace water heater today, paint tomorrow.

So I check the funds and decide on the 6 year water heater rather than the 12 year water heater that is 275 versus 500. With parts needed for replacement it came to $336 and change.

I end up haveing a draining problem and can't get it drained until I cut the outgoing line at the top to break the vacuum (yes, I had more than one faucet open, but it still held it all in there). Finally get the new one in and guess what? The valve that I used to turn off the supply will no longer turn on the supply. I now have to call the city and have them turn off the water at the road while I replace the valve, and then get them back here again to tirn it back on. I have already communicated with them and there is no charge, just call and they will be out. Even tomorrow on Sunday on a holiday weekend.

So, Ribeyes just came off the grill and we are having a laptop party out back by the pool(regular occurance). I'll get over it. Pour me some rum and diet pepsi.

That's what I hate about plumbing...You start by fixing the problem and by the time your done everything in a 10 ft radius ends up wanting to be new too. Glad you got it handled, how many trips to Home Depot did it end up taking?

Sorry to hear about that.

When I bought my house, someone had stolen the water pump.

Bought a new tank, pump, and fittings it came to $666 and change. Not a good start to my "new" house. But, so far so good.

As far as the street valve, I've never had to call someone out to turn it on or off.

Getting ready for my second trip. Plumbing problems usually require three trips. I am hoping that this one only requires 2.

All done and working perfectly. It took a bit for the city to come out and he waited for me to finish. It took less than one minute to get my repair done. I used a sharkbite valve and had it all ready. I just needed to make one cut and slam the valve in place.

Now, off to do that painting that I was supposed to get done yesterday.

Well, I got that painting done on Sunday and did some more work around the house. Then Sunday evening, I hear wifey cursing. There is a leak under the sink. Monday morning I ended up replacing most of the drain stuff and all is well for around $10 worth of parts.

Then yesterday afternoon while we were rrelaxing and and wifey was doing laundry, guess what? The freaking washer decides it is time to give up and call it quits. Luckily, after looking at it this morning, it is just the lid switch which I was able to actually access without dismantling. It cracked. I just super glued it and it seems to be working good so far. If that fails me then I will just cut the wires and twist them together. Or install a toggle switch so it can be shut off midcycle if need be. I think the super glue is going to hold it together though.

I don't think I have had so much stuff break in such a short period of time. And on a holiday weekend to boot.

I also managed to install a 3rd ceiling fan out back by the pool that I have been wanting to do for a long time. We bought the fan at an auction for $5 and it works great! I just had to get a 1 foot rod to hang it because of the slope of the over hang.

Hah! Ya. I ended up drilling a hole in the top of the machine and mounting a new toggle switch that I had laying around and eliminating the lid switch.
