Nickel Cromium

I think I have found some. Actually maybe alot. The coils inside of heating elements right? They're a pain to get out but just to make sure what I have is them do they show the same attributes as stainless? Silvery, non-magnetic, sparks to a grinder? Was about to take them in as SS but read something that said it might be better. I guess nickel goes for a higher dollar. My yard doesn't take such things but I'd be willing to look elsewhere to sell if it's worth it. My real question is...How do I tell if this is what I got?

I find most of mine in ac units that have a heat cycle also in cothes dryers and some old time heaters. It is a wire that looks like a slinkie, a magnet will not stick to it, and it is strong through ceramic insulators. It is called Ni-Crom, most yards don't buy it becuase they don't know what it is. I have been getting 2.00 per pound for it.

Happy is correct. We buy it for $4.00# but no one brings it because they don't know about it, we mainly pull it out of the AC units with the heat cycle. If you are looking in dryers they will only be in electric dryers. It takes quite a bit to make one lb.

How about in the older electric heaters? wow ive tossed a bunch of it,until i saw another post about it. it said the heating element on stoves has it.

Yes but you need to remove the outer material to get to it.

I get most of mine from electric furnaces. They average about a pound a unit. Dryers average about a quarter pound per dryer. Some yards buy stove elements as dirty stainless.

Pretty much anything that generates heat electrically will have some kind of heating element. Even blow dryers, electric heaters, etc.

Climber, I wish I could get 4.00 for Ni-Chrom. I don't get as many dryers and ac units as I used to so it's been a while sence I've sold any but I'll try to call a few places that I know buy it and see what they are paying for it.

Not all heatting elements are made of Ni-chrom. Hair dryers have a coiled element but it sticks to a magnet, Ni-chrom does not stick tto a magnet. All the Ni-chrom I've gotten kooks like the pic. above.

Happyscraper, nickel is magnetic.
