Review, Review, Review. And when you get tired of reviewing....review some more.

I spend a little time going over the old threads each day...always find posts I've missed and always learn something. If you don't make this a practice, I highly recommend it. Especially newbies. Someone recently said that it seemed very confusing. If you have never been on any forum, I suspect it would seem daunting, so I thought I'd add a post that might help. I always recommend that new people go to the introduction thread and read the sticky by Hypoman.....then introduce yourself if you haven't already. Then, BEFORE you start asking questions, please go to the Question and Answer thread or the Tips and Advice thread. Click on that thread....then go to the upper right corner where you see 1,2,3 LAST. Click on last. This will give you discussions from the forums' inception. If you read through these, you will find most of your questions have already been answered. Older members, help me out if any of this isn't clear. Or if you can say it a better way. Thanks

Dee, I do have a question. How do I get wire out of a transformer? ;)

Good idea Dee, that might work better then the search sometimes as the results can be pretty broad, but it's there you just have to want it.

Just read he entire tips and advice section. Learned alot I didnt know.

Idaho......once I was a traveling salesman !! I was working in northern Utah and decided to take a quick trip across the Idaho state line just so I could highlight it on my map, as I highlighted every state I'd been to. (got 'em all except Alaska and Montana)
As I was heading back to Utah, I got ticket for speeding. It's nice to have a new frame of reference for Idaho now....an experienced and knowledgeable scrapper with a good sense of humor. I am jubilant to have you as my forum friend.

Thanks Dee for your post and i will certainly check it out. I am brand new to this site and to scrapping. My partner has been scrapping and Dumpster diving for years but not me. So he is teaching me some things but I really enjoy reading what is up on the forums from all of you heavy duty scrappers, who at one time was just as new as I am today.

I started out stripping wires and have mixed feeling about it. Some times the cords are awful to work with and other times not bad at all and then I did my first ceiling fan and loved it and next I will be trying out my hand on regular fans.

I am 66 years old and learning, constantly learning is what keeps you young and I am getting the idea in my head that we can really make some money at this, in our small town.

so good to have you on the forum with us kat. There are some very wise and talented people on here. I've learned sooooo much and I try to pass it on if I can. If I get it wrong,the more experienced ones will correct me !! The wire stripping and motor breakdowns are the two most talked about "conundrums" !! Olddude said it best..."it's like talking about vanilla ice cream and chocolate." Actually, there's a little more to it, but what it comes down to is that everyone has to decide for themselves what's best for them. The more motors you break down, the faster you do it...of course. And fans are a great place to start. You will curse your first vacuum and some people just say never again...so for them...it goes as a motor...then there are those who say vacuums are nasty...or not worth it...so they just clip the chord and leave it. To me that walking off and leaving $$$. To invest or not to invest in a wire stripper. What kind ? Manual or motorized ? Nobody can make those decisions for anyone else. But what we can do...and what we do well...is discuss it. It helps...even if some get sick and tired of seeing it come up again...every person says it in their own unique way and adds to our "processsing" reserves for future thinking.....

As Hoss would say...."If that don't make sense...I'm drunk."
