Today's Run...couple opinions??

Aluminum cans 4lbs @ .71lb=$2.84
Sheet aluminum 7lbs @ .55lb = $3.85
#2 copper (clean) 5lbs @ 3.15 = $15.75
#2 copper (insulated) 7lbs @ 1.00lb = $7
Copper bearings 19lbs @ .15lb = $2.85 (pretty sure I took a screwin here)
Phone cable 2lbs @ 1.25lb = $2.5
#2 sheet 120lbs @ $260 TON = $15.60 (much higher than last time, wish I had some storage space.)
TOTAL= $50.39
Not bad considering I have no where to work, and did all this in my living room lol, and stored the #2 sheet in the trunk of my car


Think I took a screwin on the 19lbs of copper bearings, this was 19lbs of electric transformers... was expecting .30 - .45 per pound minimum on these, and thats low...
.15 is insane!if thats the case I will cut these down forsure.

what exactly is copper bearings, I searched and couldnt find any thing, But Im sure its not the same as a transformer :-/

yeah you got hosed on those transformers. You might want to invest in a few tools and take those bad boys apart, and take the copper in for #2 and take the balast of the transformer in for steel.

Reminds me of the time I tore down some transformers that had large copper buss bars. They had some kind of tar on it, and they gave me 25 cents a lb.

Had they been clean I would have been 40 bucks ahead.

the tools arent an issue, I have a sawsall, angle grinder, an air grinder and shears, ann a couple thousand bucks worth of hand tools, jut have no place to keep em all or do the work, I live in an apartment, so they stay locked up... can't trust the people around me, family included to keep my tools in someone elses garage.

I have alreay got me a few things since I went to the yard a couple hours age, guess im gonna have to take out a grinder and a couple other tools I will use kinda regular and find me a little work space.

workspace is one of the most important thing a scrapper needs. I would suggest finding a storage facility with 24 hour access and that doesn't mind you making some noise after hours. I rent a 10 x 20 pretty cheap, you can probably get a single stall garage size for under 75 a month.....

I know it sounds like a lot, but that 75 bucks could have given you the opportunity to make way more on those transformers.

If it was labeled as copper bearing and the copper content is suppose to be over 50% it seems to me he sure should have gotten a lot better than .15 per pound.

Bob, you are doing so well under your circumstances....I applaud your efforts and pray that you will find the appropriate workspace soon. Renting a unit probably seems overwhelming to you right now. Keep us posted and keep your good attitude.

I have a very small amount of workspace too mate and it's stressful. I need a shed, but to get a shed I need to buy an axe and cut down, dispose of ten pretty large treats first that are in the way. Every small job seems to be blocked by a big job! I'm trying to concentrate on copper wire that doesn't eat up too much space and then when I've made some money reinvest it into tools, etc.
