This wire came from a wreckout of local city we were working in. replaced with fiber. need to know a little bit about it as it has either a copper or aluminum casing over it. i believe it is 600 pair . this is telecommunication wire that was underground. its 3 to 4 inches around and very heavy. magnet will NOT stick to the casing. just wanting to know a little bit about it before its time to sell it. thanks. how do i upload a pic?
You "may" want to strip it out depending on the gauge of the wire. The big thing to consider though is the outer shield --- between the twisted pair and the outer covering there should be some type of shielding material. Depending on the cable, this could be a copper shield. If it is a 600 pair cable, then it's probably 24 gauge; maybe even 26 gauge. It might be 22 gauge.....but doubtful.
You probably have aluminum cased telephone wire...does it have any gooey crap inside if it? Either way its #2 insulated..the crap inside will determine recovery %...No gooey stuff your lookin at about 1.75lb...gooey 1.50

it has no gel in it. and the insulation dividing all of the pairs is paper

In the scrap world many call the wire you have and pardon me "Elephant D**K" LMAO seriously.
They can have copper, aluminum or in some cases a lead jacket which hurts the price but still has a value.
